Thread: Doc Reviews: The Hunger Games

  1. My daughter started reading these books about a year ago. She told me the premise and I told her that it sounds awfully familiar. We then had a Battle Royale Movie Night. It was a great bonding time.

  2. I'm at the magical time where it has been long enough since I've seen BR that I only remember the gist of it and none of the actual movie. It'll be like seeing it for the almost first time.

Confirmed. The Running Man actually had more humor, biting social commentary, and depth than this piece of shit. Seriously.

I wish there was a version of BR that ditched the shitty ending and used the one from the book instead. I barely even recall what it was, just that it didn't have the magically reviving teacher and pussied out lovers-make-it-through crap. I think it might also be time to re-read it.

I barely have time to play and watch stuff I haven't seen yet but somehow I'll make time for nostalgia. Go go priorities.

I think at the end of the book the main guy, his girl, and a third dude sneak aboard the ship and make it to the mainland.

  6. So, I see this wasn't popular. I added a poll too, if you wish to express your hate. I'll be seeing a lot more movies this year and plan on doing more of these.

  7. I doubt anyone criticizing it has actually seen it. It's just getting well deserved hate for avoiding moral conflict and being a PG-13.

  8. It's a damn young adult novel! It's one time I agree with keeping it PG 13. The end of the battle did leave something to be desired. Lord of the Flies didn't exactly have a happy ending, but I don't know if that was targeted for kids or not, either. Also I just like it's critisizm of conservative politics during an election year and reality television. And I'm. A fan of Battle Royal, too. But I think these are two seperate movies.

I think their point is that it leaves out some intense stuff from the young adult novel. Or so I've heard.

I actually did see the movie, and it wasn't bad. The complains have already been stated, as the effort made to not show gore made for some really silly camerawork, but in the case of this movie I completely understand since the target audience is teenagers. I'm actually tempted to read the book to see how stuff was really supposed to happen.

Also stated, but I thought it was silly when The girl spends half the movie avoiding conflict or killing a human, and when she finally does she's just like, "Oops, I killed him. That wasn't so hard!"
