This was pretty well stated, as Bossman usually does when he's not depressed, but the problem is the internet is a bunch of dumbasses and people who rally those dumbasses, so people see another dog pile instead of Bossman's acknowledgement that it's people working hard, just subject to some bizarre mismanagement. Even Kamiya said that it's all worthless people hanging onto everything he says, and the stuff they hang onto is usually out of context or reused without thinking about what he's actually saying, unless it's "BLOCKED" or *never-ending thread of links that answers whatever question you asked but it's going to be a while*, but it's not going to stop anything, people can't think for themselves.

AND THAT'S THE TRUE TRAGEDY IN ALL OF THIS.

LIKE. They announced that there was a goal, not much higher above the one they already have, to make a console version, but it's only going to be for one console and the console wasn't announced. Instead of reading to the next part that was "we'll let you vote on it", people started screaming "LAWL BOMBA" at the top of their lungs at something that was clear and reasonable. Innernet, right?

  3. Red Ash is really doing dismally. I'd like to see it do better, but it really seems like they made every mistake, and they maybe don't even get it. It's a shame because it's a game I'd really like to see get made.

  4. They already added stretch goals up to $1.5 million.

  5. My rule on Kickstarter is not to support establishment dudes who have other avenues of funding their projects. Go get another damn publisher and I'll buy the game if it's good when it comes out. KS is for weirdo small scale 'this wouldn't get made otherwise' projects.

  6. I mean it doesn't have to be small scale, but there should at least be a sense that other avenues have been exhausted. Yu Suzuki has been fighting for 14 years to get Shenmue made and we all know that. Same for a lot of those adventure projects. It's not so much a question of scale as it is whether or not it's exhausted the other options.

  7. I think the market made its choice about Shenmue. (Much as I like the goofy thing.)

It shouldn't be about resurrecting shit that died a natural death, it should be about new ideas. IMO.

  8. No, "the market" didn't decide anything. Beancounters decided that the money that could have been spent on another Shenmue was better spent on more potentially profitable projects. They were probably right, but that doesn't mean there wasn't and isn't demand for it. And beancounters have been proven wrong before - look at how there was supposedly no market for isometric 2D RPGs or space sims. And look at how well games like Pillars of Eternity, Wasteland 2, Elite Dangerous, and Star Citizen have done.

  9. My rule for kickstarter: if it's something i want and it looks good, i'll give it money, just like anything in real life. This isn't going to be made otherwise anyway because in 2015 no publisher wants to fund games like this because there wouldn't be many more people buying this one any other way.

Who has Comcept worked with so far that would actually take a game that's exactly Mega Man Legends but Not Really or even something similar? What company would even risk it? The big one would've been Nintendo 3-4 years ago, but who knows if they'll ever do anything like W101 or Bayo2 again, and both of those were from a much more reputable company than Your Uncle Inafune *Wink* Inc. IntiCreates is super small, the closest IdeaFactory will ever get is throwing Neptunia characters into a similar game, Marvelous canceled that penguin game that was the most similar thing to this because it wasn't worth the risk, Cacpcom didn't want to fund it when it was an actual thing (and didn't have the original staff).

I wish Inafune wasn't so prominently the face of this, but it's hard to imagine it otherwise. However talented the rest of the staff might be, everyone knows Inafune and besides Manami Matsumae and TOM-PON, the rest of the staff, again, the actual people who worked on the game they're emulating, isn't going to be recognized, even by myself because that information isn't even easily found on the internet.

It was probably something about the gap between Shenmue's cost and potential profit being so wide that it wouldn't have made its money back unless every Dreamcast owner bought it twice, even though it sold alright when it was released.

Anyone who wants to launch a stupid thing on Kickstarter has every right to. There are enough books about the family dog and statues dedicated to Limp Bizkit to forgive every project that's by someone who's done something successful in the past.
