Of all to play now, V (Dragon Quarter) is probably it. It's the most interesting, offers a very good challenge and in general just was really interesting. Think I'm about half way through it.
Lots of people love IV too! I just haven't gotten into it. Definitely a game I may pick up on PSP though.
I really disliked Dragon Quarter. I just found it way off of what the game is meant to be. IV was pretty damn fun with the tagging in of different characters and the spell combo system, but the story was forgettable. I just re-read it now on Wikipedia and it sounds kinda retarded. III's story was fun and even had a time jump! I got everything possible and it was worth it to finally get to the end and all the revelations that would appear. That game changed the way I'd appreciate video games forever.
IV was all about the characters. The story was good in the context of the other Breath of Fire games, being the actual origin of the Goddess and the Dragon Clan, but even if you couldn't appreciate that, the characters were great. The whole series was good about having memorable characters.
I didn't really think III had that great of a story either, but the last time i played it all the way through was 12 years ago, so i might appreciate it more now. The most i remember from that one was Momo and that last battle being a real bitch. And that fucking desert.
I beat the final boss on a total fluke. All MP, HP, and items done; couldn't do the Holy Strike anymore; skills were useless; had to kill Rei due to his berserk going too long and beginning to turn on me; and she was killing me. Did a hail Mary bone breaker skill with Garr and won.
