I traded in a NES, a ton of games, and some SNES stuff to get my psx in 1999. no regrets.

So after deciding not to follow the herd back into the NES/FC due to the fact that I couldn't get hardware I'd be happy with (RGB and disk system) for less than $500, I settled on Sony's 2D legacy as a good place to focus. This was in part influenced by the fact that they are the only console maker I can stomach supporting going forward, so I might as well be consistent.

I already had the vast majority of the good US 2D PS2 games:
    • Art of Fighting Anthology
    • Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 1-2
    • Capcom Fighting Evolution ("good" is loosely used in some cases)
    • Contra: Shattered Soldier
    • Fatal Fury: Battle Archives Volume 1-2
    • Gradius III & IV
    • Gradius V
    • King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match
    • King of Fighters XI
    • Metal Slug Anthology
    • Neo Contra
    • Neo Geo Battle Coliseum
    • R-Type Final
    • Raiden III
    • SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1
    • Sega Classics Collection
    • Sega Genesis Collection
    • Street Fighter Anniversary Collection
    • Taito Legends 2
    • World Heroes Anthology

I also had a few key US 2D PS1 games, many of which are my preferred digital versions:
    • Castlevania Chronicles
    • Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
    • Einhänder
    • In the Hunt
    • R-Type Delta
    • R-Types

And then a few Japanese PSone Classics that were on the Hong Kong PSN store:
    • Adventure of Little Ralph
    • DoDonPachi
    • DonPachi
    • Gunners Heaven
    • Money Idol Exchanger

And then in the last week, I've gone after Japanese stuff on PS2 that I hadn't previously owned:
    • Hudson Selects Vol. 2: Star Soldier
    • Twinklestar Spirites: La Petite Princess
    • Vampire: Darkstalkers Collection

    along with physical PS1 imports:
    • Gradius Deluxe Pack
    • Gradius Gaiden

and PSone Classics on the Japanese PSN store:
    • Harmful Park
    • Panzer Bandit
    • Thunder Force V: Perfect System
    • Zanac X Zanac

There are still a few I need to get out of my top priorities, but I am very pleased that I didn't get sucked into the 8-bit craze.

Is there any doubt that a JPS2 (or by proxy a 60GB JPS3) is the best console ever? Any left in my mind is shrinking fast.

  5. It was only your Yoshi craze that stopped you from getting in one the NES craze.
The games don't play any worse for the lack of boxes and instructions.
Were you not into Mega Man? PS2 collections were great, I thought.

  6. He hates Megaman for some reason.

  7. Needs some Skygunner, Klonoa 2, Red Star, and the Shikigami games.

  9. Yoshi- how was The Adventures of Little Ralph? I thought that looked pretty cool back in the day.

  10. What about Tomba? The first one.
