TNL Movie Club: Marathon Man

1. If you never saw it ... shame on you.
2. It's a classic.
3. It's awesome.

It stars a very young Dustin Hoffman, Roy Scheider, William Devane and a very old Sir Laurence Oliver. Its a simple premise to the film. "A graduate history student is unwittingly caught in the middle of an international conspiracy involving stolen diamonds, an exiled Nazi war criminal, and a rogue government agent."(1) But there's so much more to the film. The cinematography, the title also has double meaning (will explain when people see it.), and the performances were amazing.

But the real question that comes to mind .... Is It Safe?



I had SSJN check if it's on Netflix ... Yeah ... It's safe.

Great film that I was completely unaware of until the Clerks cartoon turned me onto the "is it safe" line. Pathetic, yet true.

Of course you had to pick this when I've got a root canal coming up at the end of the week, you son of a bitch. Seriously though, good pick.

This is one of those movies that's got a really strange feel to it, like Deliverance. Even when horrible shit isn't going down, you're unsettled and can't exactly pinpoint why. I'm pretty sure this is another classic film that my gf has managed to never see, so I'll wait until we're both home to watch it. I want to say I was in my early 20s the last time I saw it, so it's been a while.

I love this movie. My dad introduced me to it back when I was in high school. It's basically a heist movie with some really awesome, creepy characters.

Looking forward to watching it again.

Everyone in this movie is ugly. I wish there had been more to the eat the diamonds thing, that dude needed to be tortured for much, much longer to satisfy me.
