Thief: The PS2 resolution is a pretty big step down if you're used to 720p/1080p. Don't forget that it's not even progressive scan like the Wii.

[edit] I'll respond to your edit with mine: I agree that style and animation are a big part of how it looks, which is why FFXII looks so much better than Xenoblade despite the latter running in a higher resolution.

You know, I think I just solved my own problem. The 7 series cards will be out by the time this game is, you'll be able to emulate it day one. Fuck it, they can do whatever they want.

In what way? FFXII was plenty 'open' for my tastes. Do I want my Japanese RPG to have a structure like Skyrim? Lord no. Just like I don't want Skyrim's crappy battle system in my Japanese RPG.

Open in the sense that there's a detailed world that can be explored freely, which is an element sorely lacking in this generation's J-RPGs. FFXIII being a worse offender than most.

XIII was also directed by the same guy who did X, which is just as bad an offender for the most part. So if Ito's in charge it's not entirely relevant.

I feel like if people had called out X for how Linear like they did XIII, XIII would have been considerably different.
