Thread: 2012 NFL Thread

  1. Ray is my favorite defensive player ever and I like watching that D play like I like watching Peyton play.

I'm thinking the Bengals are next up in that category. They have Mike Zimmer, whom the Cowboys never should have let go, and a lot of relatively unknown but big time talent on that side of the ball.

Speaking of the Cowboys, The Jones boys should look in the mirror. Rob Ryan was not the problem when he could barely get 11 healthy bodies out there. IT'S THE GOD DAMNED OFFENSIVE LINE YOU DIDN'T ADDRESS LAST OFFSEASON, JERRY. But I'm sure he'll go drop $50M on another overrated position this time instead.

  3. Ray Lewis WAS my favourite defensive player, until he killed a man down in Miami .... and got away with it.

That man probably spelled "favorite" with a "u" and deserved it.

edit: This is excellent news. I hope they hire him. I am convinced the only reason the Cowboys didn't fire his ass is to avoid a lawsuit for the tent falling on him whenever that was.

I can't imagine how pissed Mark Sanchez would and should be if they cut him loose and then hire Norv Turner as their OC. Sanchez could have been good with someone like that.

  7. They won't - unless they are even dumber than I think they are. And that's pretty dumb. His salary cap hit next year is bone crunching.

So much for solidifying the NFC West. Apparently Andy Reid is taking the easy way out and going to the AFC West, where in 2-3 years there will be no Peyton Manning but still the Chargers and Raiders.

The ESPN story aka Peter King story was discounted. Reid is still headed to Arizona tomorrow and The Chargers Saturday.

Meanwhile, Bill O'Brein is headed to Philly tomorrow and Mike McCoy Saturday. Chip Kelly is meeting with Lurie tonight after the Bowl Game.

I heard an interesting take on all of these openings. It was that all of these guys should stay where they are one more year, because next year you could have Schaub, Stafford, or Romo instead of Kolb, Foles, Cassell, or Rivers.

edit: Unrelated, I was talking with a work buddy today and realized how easy it would be with a smart offensive coordinator to recreate the Redskin offense in Jacksonville. You get Tebow and have him make the same trained chimp decisions Griffin has to make. And Justin Blackmon and Maurice Jones-Drew are way more talented than Pierre Garcon and Alfred Morris, so as long as Tebow can hit the wide open receivers, they'd show huge improvement. Of course, every defensive coordinator in the league is going to have a scheme he thinks will stop that before next season starts, so it might blow up in their faces too.
