Thread: This Month's Haul: November 2012

  1. I sold my roku XD for $30 to a coworker and paid $78 for this. It's for the kitchen tv, but I imagine I'll plug it into the living room if I want to chan out with some dual audio anime mkv's

  2. LOL, I have a friend who offered me $30 for my roku too.

Best advantage over the Roku so far is that the LG netflix app supports season play!
Currently Playing: Final Fantasy V Pixel Remaster (PC), Let's Build a Zoo (PC) & Despot's Game (PC)

So the only reason I'd do anything other than just use my PS3 for my media needs is mkvs and files larger than 4Gb (you'd have to format a thumb drive to NTFS to get them on it but the PS3 won't read it unless it's FAT32), so talk to me about this device you got.

Do you transfer stuff to it or does it stream video playing on the computer? Part of me thinks that when we move in a year and we don't have the computer in the same room as the the main TV I'm going to have to build a simple media computer, but this could be a better option, maybe.

This has channels like the roku (Netflix, Hulu) but also can read local PC's wirelessly. It also has 2 USB ports. Click image for larger version.

  7. I'm gonna throw a blu ray image of a popular super hero that clocks in at 11g's at it when I get home.

  9. I gave up on those streaming boxes a year or two ago. They work fine for MKVs up to a point but there's always some new encoding option around the corner that's going to fuck them up and you're SOL until WD decides they're going to actually update the firmware six months later.

Also the UI is usually horrible horseshit. I'd just build the HTPC because you're guaranteed to be happy and will have a much more adaptable system in place.

  10. My wife wouldn't know what the fuck to do with that, and wouldn't be wanting it in the kitchen on our peninsula. You've seen exactly where I'm putting it, and the TV.
