Maybe this will help dog$:

Humans (and Finn is the last human, but other "humans" that he encounters do this as well) wear animal-shaped hats because Humans were hunted and eaten by the animals (such as rainicorns) after the mushroom war. Which is a big reason why Finn is the last human.

Does the series state Finn is the last? I figured humans were just really rare.

They've toyed a few times with the possibility that there is another human, but yeah Finn is the only one for certain.

eeehhhhh, he's the purest human.

There are other humanish things. Things that had mutated from humans. Or humans that were distorted by evil or magic.

There is a vampire that I think was human? And the Snow king was long long ago, before his snow magic warped him into a sad lonely husk of a man.

I don't know, this is one of those things that is hard to discuss without giving away massive spoilers. A lot of character development relates to who and what things used to be and what they grew into later.

BTW, there is a pretty awesome 10 inch Jake plush at Walmart right now. He comes with a blanket thing. He probably won't be with the toys. I found him near the electronics on the end of an isle with some stuffed sonics (I think they might have been sonic 1 or 2 style).

I mention them because they are like 9.98 which is a pretty killer price for CN merch.
