You're forgetting that it's fine for Jedi to be deadbeat dads/moms, it's having a relationship with their kids and baby-mommas/daddies that's forbidden. No, I'm not making that up. THAT's what you're defending.

This is deep nerd talk.
Boo, Hiss.
No one can say that it's Cheeks shitting up this thread anymore.
Seriously, you dildos are passionately arguing over whether magical laser sword wielding space knights from a kid's movie are allowed to fuck.
I'm really sorry I read that. How freaking stupid. I guess you could still argue that it's similar to a secret agent or something, but I'm certainly no longer motivated to defend it based on that.
Give it time. And the difference is that there were actually real, well written arguments on both sides of this debate and not just attention whoring.

Dolemite, the Bad-Ass King of all Pimps and Hustlers
Gymkata: I mean look at da lil playah woblin his way into our hearts in the sig awwwwwww
Had my first impression manifesto written up and TNL ate it.
Lucky for you guys, it was basically the same thing Dolemite posted a few pages back. Salient points, all.
I didn't like that it seemed to be a beat for beat remake of the original (was hoping for something a lil more...original). I didn't like that the writers didn't seem to trust that the audience could put one and one together on their own. There were no real Shocking Reveals because you were beat over the head with everything from the get. Everyone knew what was going to happen on the bridge, and it lost a lot of impact because of it. It made me grown for all the wrong reasons.
Because of all the fan service and call backs to the previous movies I was absolutely positive it wasn't only the trees at the end that would lose limbs during the fight. So I am glad they didn't take it THAT far.
I thought the deep seated affection between Luke's and Lando's kids was a tad forced. They just fucking met. Sure, the dangerous situations they found themselves getting into could accelerate their friendship, but I don't think it'd be to the point where one would scream at the world like this one did. I get dramatic effect. But there's a danger of your drama turning into comedy if it's coming from too far out of left field.
I have no issue with Rey turning into super girl because The Force. Episode one established that a six year old could use the force to control a craft that humans otherwise could not. No one seems to be bringing up the fact that she tossed the Falcon around like she had been born to it the first time she climbed into the captain's chair. So the fact that she was instantly a super kendo machine shouldn't press your ability to suspend disbelief either.
That said, I think it was a fine pew pew pew movie. I would watch this one again.
This is exactly what I was thinking.
Watched this again yesterday and yeah, I like it a lot, but I still feel like a lot of the nostalgia/old character stuff is the weakest. I can't wait to learn more about Rey. The HuffPo rebuttal is very spot on. Everything is set up fine. The character intros in the beginning are the best part of the movie. The visuals are really stunning. I do love all the real sets and practical effects.
