I think they're similar. People buy both because they're cute, not because they have a deep relationship with the characters.

That may be why people buy mickey shit now, but that is not why he was created. But Hello Kitty has always been an image to put on products. She started out on purses.

Right, but you were asking why people would buy Mickey stuff now. It's because it's cute, or funny, or whatever. Like, in Japan, I don't even know if they ever actually got Peanuts cartoons, but there's tons of Snoopy stuff, because—to them—it's just a cute character.

Is it cute or funny? Mickey products are so generic. Why would a kid want it? Why would a kid even want to go to Disney World or Disney Land? Does Disney channel even advertise the parks much now? Between whatever garbage bad sitcom about a 13 year old girl they're airing?

But hey, lets say you're completely right.

Why should that kind of company be making a star wars movie? What reason do we have to think they WON'T do the same and end up pumping out generic meaningless garbage so they can sell a bunch of purses with rebel or empire symbol on them for the next 50 years?

  8. Well, since we already had that anyway there's nowhere to go but up.

None of this explains why Disney hasn't pushed for more Fireball Charming, which is the real travesty here.

Last I checked Disney had a TV station advertising their brand 24 hours a day.

  10. Disney Parks attendance has been at the highest it has ever been. It costs $100 fucking dollars to go to the park for one day and in 2013 132m people went to their parks which was a 4% increase over the previous year (Couldn't find newer data, didn't really care to either). The advertising is everywhere, at least for me, having a 4 year old daughter. Josh was right to an extent, but they have ABC/espn/2/ABC Fam/Disney/XD/Jr all advertising their brand 24/7.
