I would've watched episodes 3-6 in 3D. Shame they based projected sales off the most hated entry of the series.

They want to release new movies now. The fans hate the idea of 3D updates, and the fans hate the new trilogy.

Does Disney want fans talking about the new movie, or complaining about how crappy the new trilogy is and how annoying the 3D re-releases are?

I really don't think this is about projected sales, or positive NPV or anything (they would be guaranteed to make money off it). I really think it's about Disney wanting to start fresh with this franchise. They need the nerds, and the nerds are sick of rehashes.

It's basically a PR move. Maybe they'll revisit it after the new movie launches.

First they said they were doing all six with one a year. Then they said they were only going to do the prequels, and then do the originals if sales were high enough (which sounds an awful lot like TPM was doing worse than expected). Then they rescheduled episodes 2 and 3 to launch like one month apart. Now they're canceling both of those a couple months later. Just seems weird. Almost as weird as when my girlfriend told me she dressed up as Amidala for halloween when she was like 10.
