Will - sorry to hear that, sounds like a massive headache. I also got the game from the MS store on Black Friday but it went smoothly in my case.

Put in another 2/3 hours today and it's a lot of fun so far. I did give up on the speed wheel though as it seems awkward to me and I don't want to spend more time trying to get used to it.

Yeah I'm still playing the demo and it's pretty rad, I've never been fond of wheels for racers outside of arcade cabinets since the set-up is always going to be awkward but the Xbox controller is pretty perfect for racers and FPS's.

The graphics from Forza 4 to Horizon also look improved as far as the car models go since there's less tearing on the car models which make them look smoother but the framerate seems less than Forza 4. Looking forward to making a party with you guys and do some racing since racing online in Forza 4 has become abominably bad with all the bumper car game play and souped up cars leaving everyone else in the dust.

I was going to pass on this, but for $15, I do have to say its been an assload of fun. Tuning does actually do stuff, its not as detailed as 4, but you can still make a car too powerful and make it undrive-able

I even find it find driving halfway across the map to get to a different race. I haven't once bothered with trying to unlock any of the quick jump points.

I will not be buying DLC for it though, I spent a ton on Forza 4 and refuse to spend any more money unless I get some of my paid F4 DLC for free.

There was some "interesting" online play though like floating cars jerking over the place and some weirdly laid out tracks.

Some of those cars went up 20 feet in the air and then were miraculously on the street again.

Also, the fish tailing really bugs me in this game. There are certain times where you just can't get the car to straighten out again and it costs you a chance at the race.

Agreed about the fish tailing, it would help if you could just tune your car to fix that but it looks like you just have to kind of keep struggling with the controls. I'm going to try to get more cars though, maybe there are some that handle better.

Indeed, Forza does that a lot.

I buckled to that sort of thing in Forza 4 but I'm going to try to resist buying all of that here unless it goes on sale or it's free.

I'd agree that the ads are a minor annoyance. I can't imagine who would buy the treasure maps for the barn finds...they are not exactly tough to find. The game is pretty darn generous with the credits and upgrade discounting which I do like.
