Finished it. Had to restart the very end a few times to a glitch that wouldn't let me use my guns. The first game is still the best.
Full High & FXAA at 1920 x 1200 has worked fine for me so far with a GTX 580 (1346 MB, vs. my card's 1536). I don't plan on pushing it to Very High though, at least until I have a 680 or something higher. Not for awhile- by the time I plan on getting a new $500 graphics card, I may well be choosing from the 800 series. Gotta get a bit more mileage out of the 580 after what I spent on it.
While neither C2 nor C3 exactly capture everything from the first (the KPA in 1 will literally tear the place apart to find you), C3 does bring back some of the sandbox feel from part 1- there are some fairly good sized subsections within a stage. Even if there are 7 stages, they seem quite a bit larger than C2's. Hacking CELL security turrets can be fun, but this seems better as a tool to distract the enemy than to take out a few with their own weapon. The turret gets trashed quickly.
Polygon does complain about the bow. Easy workaround: just play with the other weapons or stick to using special arrow types only. At least the special arrow types are severely limited to a max of three in stock for each, and the bow loses its range advantage against a DSG-1. One thing I truly hate is having to give up the REX C4 charges if I wanted the JAW launcher. Crysis 2 allows keeping both.
C3 has some of the elements from the first two games (good and bad) with some new stuff. At least the nano catalyst powerups can be made stronger by doing some task (regenerate a certain amount of energy, kill a number of enemies, etc).

The level design in this is really contrived and linear. I always felt like that complaint about the second game was overstated and there was still plenty of room for freedom, but here that seems to be less true. Cloaking seems to be way unbalanced, too. Recharges in like 2 seconds and lasts for like 30.
Comparing 3 to the first game, I have to agree about cloaking. It's not just the recharging, but there is nearly no penalty against your Energy meter for using the bow or a silenced weapon. Taking 1/3 to 1/2 the bar for an arrow or silenced shot done under cloak would be fine. So would taking the whole bar for a loud shot. C1's energy gauge does take more time to fill up.
C3 seems to switch between linear sections and wide open areas (but nothing like C1's).
I'm in the early part of the 4th mission, and hope some more Ceph and some enemy armor vehicles show up soon. Can't wait to try out the thermite arrows.
Hopefully Crysis 4 can follow the first game more closely, given that it'll likely have the next-gen systems in mind.
Crysis 1 and Warhead would be good to see on GOG about now. Crytek has Far Cry on there now, and Electronic Arts has some of its older titles up. A DRM-free release (or at least pulling SecuROM out of the Steam version) would generate a mad rush of sales.

I doubt there will be a fourth. This is a monster budget game that sold like shit on release week. Crysis is finished.

Crytek is going pure free to play anyway. This game apparently cost them 66 million to make.

I have no idea where the 66 million dollars went. The game is gorgeous, but gorgeous doesn't necessarily equal money
