Thread: Crysis 3 (PC, PS3, 360)

  1. Have you ever sat through the credits for a Crytek game? At least 400,000 people work for them, across 3 different planets.

  2. Yeah but what did they do? There are 3 enemies and 7 levels

I enjoyed the game, don't get me wrong. It was a fine length for me, and I'd definitely go through it again if they nerf the bow (even though the bow is awesome). But 66 million for dev and marketing? Nah.

Oh yeah, I did not go through the credits seeing as how it won't let me finish the last 30 seconds of meaningless gameplay.

  3. 399,700 of them were in charge of managing and coordinating the remaining 300.

Seriously, though, part of the reason development costs spiral out of control is because when a team gets to be a certain size, the need for management goes way up and most of your team isn't actually working directly on the game anymore.

  4. Crytek is basically in the process of going stupidly insane. Between free-to-play and always-online single player, they can just die now.

  5. I don't give a damn about always online. I am always online.

  6. Bullshit. You don't give a damn about always online until something happens that knocks you offline. Maybe it won't be whatever Blizzard or Crytek has in mind for their next games, but it will happen sooner or later. Then you can wonder why on earth you'd put up with this idiocy.

I'm less concerned about my connection and more concerned about theirs. Always online works both ways. Ubisoft and Blizzard have both shown themselves to be incapable of maintaining the nearly-100% uptime that I demand if they want me to pay $60 for a game, and I see no reason why Crytek would be able to manage it either. There's also the question of continuing support. What happens if they go out of business or simply decide that it isn't worthwhile maintaining the servers anymore?

And that is the real problem that many people overlook. As someone who goes back to play old games somewhat often, single-player games which require a connection are fucking awful.

  9. Authentication is okay with me because it'll get hacked. The only future proofing I actually worry about are the ones that stream game info like Diablo 3.

It's been said that C3 is a wrap on the story, but not the franchise- and that there will be an F2P Crysis game. Crysis Wars II sounds likelier than a true sequel.
Ryse is neither Kinect or 360.
