If you're taking the awards part seriously, you probably shouldn't. The VGAs is one of the biggest shows of the year for revealing new games/trailers/release dates. I don't understand how that's a problem.
I watched it a year or two ago, it really is the definition of a clown show. It makes the ESPYs look professional.
It's the combination of the sheer douchebaggery involved with it and the fact that award shows in general are terrible wastes of time.
Go to www.gametrailers.com the morning after and you can watch the trailers.

If you watched the Mets play after the All-Star break even once when Dickey wasn't pitching, you've done worse with two hours.
I don't understand why the Awards are a necessity anyway. Wouldn't the game companies prefer to have the entire slot devoted to pimping their new wares as opposed to wasting time winning meaningless awards?
E3 was six months ago.
You're thinking about it from a rational point of view. Imagine the Reggie fans lining up to support whatever bullshit Nintendo is nominated for... or the knuckle draggers who buy every Call of Duty making sure it wins some ridiculous shit like best story. God forbid those groups overlap...
