Thread: TNL's 2012 Wrap Up

  1. Console/PC Games
    • Favorite PC Game of 2012: Guild Wars 2- I never got into an MMO before this game and I probably won't again. This game is amazing though. From WvW and the random events just happening in the world, its always fun and always interesting. This beat out ALOT of stiff comp. GOTY for me.
    • Favorite PS3 Game of 2012: ---
    • Favorite Wii/Wii U Game of 2012: Rythm Heaven Fever. It beats Kirby simply by being a new game and not a compilation.
    • Favorite 360 Game of 2012: Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown - 360 is pretty much dead to me, but the new VF was fun.
    • Favorite Console/PC Game of 2012: Guild Wars 2

    Mobile/Portable Games
    • Favorite DS/3DS Game of 2012: Resident Evil : Revelations- Just got a 3DSXL and loving this. Super Mario 3D land is better but that was last year.

    • Favorite Android/iOS Game of 2012: Dodonpachi Maximum(windows phone)- Hard to believe that we got this as an exclusive for so long. Great game.

    • Favorite North American Developed Game of 2012: Hawken- Amazing FTP mech FPS. I'm a sucker for mechs and online shooters. This is a K.O. !
    • Favourite European Developed Game of 2012: Hotline Miami- Not looking for an inner meaning to this game, just a tight, viceral game with a soundtrack and art few big devs could ever think up.
    • Favorite Japanese Developed Game of 2012: Nope
    • Favorite Game of 2012: Guild Wars 2

    Companies

    • Favorite Publisher of 2012: None
    • Developer/Publisher I'll Miss the Most: Dice- I've missed them since BF2. BF3 is a souless husk in comparison.
    • Favorite Platform Owner of 2012: Valve
    • Favorite Gaming News Source of 2012: NeoGAF- They're quick as fuck but retarded. I don't participate but fuck if they don't get news quick

    • Most Daring Prediction for 2013: No "next gen" consoles till 2014

  2. Console/PC Games
    • Favorite PC Game of 2012: n/a, but it probably would have been Torchlight 2 had I bought it
    • Favorite PS3 Game of 2012: Demon's Souls, because this is the year I finished it (and I don't think I played a 2012 PS3 game?)
    • Favorite Wii/Wii U Game of 2012: n/a
    • Favorite 360 Game of 2012: Witcher 2: EE
    • Favorite Console/PC Game of 2012: Witcher 2: EE

    Mobile/Portable Games
    • Favorite DS/3DS Game of 2012: Picross 3D - all DS games I played were older ones, but this one was just addicting as hell. Want more.
    • Favorite PSP/Vita Game of 2012: Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core - still never beat it, but it's the only reason I've used my PSP the whole year.
    • Favorite Android/iOS Game of 2012: Ghost Trick
    • Favorite Mobile/Portable Game of 2012: Ghost Trick

    Geography
    • Favorite North American Developed Game of 2012: Giving it to Skyrim, as this is the year I finished it.
    • Favourite European Developed Game of 2012: Witcher 2: EE and Dishonored - 2 wildly different games, both were completely awesome, can't decide which I "enjoyed" more.

    Companies
    • Favorite Developer of 2012: Cave, I played a lot of their shit this year
    • Favorite Publisher of 2012: Namco Bandai - Brought Dark Souls over, that's all they needed to do.
    • Developer/Publisher I'll Miss the Most: I don't know enough about any who are closing and what they do on the regular to miss any of them.
    • Favorite Platform Owner of 2012: Microsoft? Does that count?
    • Favorite Gaming News Source of 2012: Game Informer/TNL, the only two places I look.
    • Favorite Game Retailer of 2012: XBL
    • Favorite Company of 2012: Cave

    Crystal Ball
    • Most Anticipated Mobile/Portable Game of 2013: Can't think of any right now.
    • Most Anticipated Console/PC Game of 2013: DARK SOULS 2
    • Most Anticipated Hardware of 2013: Meh
    • Most Daring Prediction for 2013: We will all still be alive!

And I feel like there was a missed category for downloadable games, so:

Favorite XBLA game: Trials Evolution/ Spelunky
Favorite PSN game: n/a, still have never bought any. Wait, I may have downloaded Streets of Rage 2 for free. So that.
Favorite Virtual Console game: I only played stuff I already had, and didn't beat any of them, so this is moot for me.

  3. #13
Joust confirmed that Max Payne 3 is going to be the next game I finish before the year ends here.

  4. I'm actually on my way out the door now to buy it. Collectors Edition on PS3 & 360 is $20 at Gamestop if your local store has it in stock.
Currently Playing: Final Fantasy V Pixel Remaster (PC), Let's Build a Zoo (PC) & Despot's Game (PC)

  5. Max Payne 3 is phenomenal. I don't get the hate. Best game in the series.

  6. Nah, you get it on the Steam sale. Like I said a bit earlier, I wish I had held off on some of these games until I got a PC version. Max Payne 3 looks insane on PC (looks very good on 360 too though).

  7. I removed categories for systems I either don't own (PS3/Wii U/3DS) or don't care about (iOS/Android).

    Console/PC Games

    • Favorite PC Game of 2012: Guild Wars 2 - I thought Diablo 3 was going to give it competition for my favorite PC game this year, but yeah...disappointment.
    • Favorite 360 Game of 2012: The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings - Could never get this to run right on either PC here. I'm glad it got such a solid port.
    • Favorite Console/PC Game of 2012: Guild Wars 2

    Mobile/Portable Games

    • Favorite PSP/Vita Game of 2012: Gravity Rush - The Vita's first major release and still the best, IMO. Ambitious, clever and charming as hell.
    • Favorite Mobile/Portable Game of 2012: Gravity Rush

    Geography
    • Favorite North American Developed Game of 2012: Guild Wars 2
    • Favourite European Developed Game of 2012: Dishonored
    • Favorite Japanese Developed Game of 2012: Gravity Rush
    • Favorite Game of 2012: Gravity Rush

    Companies
    • Favorite Developer of 2012: ArenaNet - The hype for GW2 prior to release was reaching ridiculous levels, but IMO they didn't disappoint.
    • Favorite Publisher of 2012: Atlus - Outside of that awful Game of Thrones game, they really did no wrong this year. Persona 4 Golden and Arena were fantastic.
    • Developer/Publisher I'll Miss the Most: Hudson Soft - If you have any love for the PCE/Turbografx, this one hurt.
    • Favorite Platform Owner of 2012: Playstation Vita - Yeah, Sony's support is abysmal, but it's like a magic trick every time I turn it on. Amazing tech.
    • Favorite Gaming News Source of 2012: TNL - Seriously.
    • Favorite Game Retailer of 2012: Steam
    • Favorite Company of 2012: Atlus

    Crystal Ball
    • Most Anticipated Mobile/Portable Game of 2013: Shin Megami Tensei IV (if it's released next year), otherwise Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers. Looks like I'm buying a 3DS.
    • Most Anticipated Console/PC Game of 2013: Dark Souls II
    • Most Anticipated Hardware of 2013: A Valve console would be amazing. More realistically, the next Xbox/Playstation (obviously).
    • Most Daring Prediction for 2013: The Vita stops slumping thanks to price cuts and a better selection of games and finally catches on with gamers.

  8. Console/PC Games
    • Favorite PC Game of 2012: Ugh, I don’t know. Dark Souls, Guild Wars 2, Diablo III, PSO2 (I guess I can save that one for the English release), Tera, and I still haven’t played Binary Domain (just installed it two days ago!), SOASE:Rebellion, Max Payne 3, and barely touched Crusader Kings II. Guild Wars 2, I guess.
    • Favorite PS3 Game of 2012: Final Fantasy XIII-2. Maybe Tokyo Jungle.
    • Favorite Wii/Wii U Game of 2012: The Last Story.
    • Favorite 360 Game of 2012: Mass Effect 3.
    • Favorite Console/PC Game of 2012: Mass Effect 3

    Mobile/Portable Games
    • Favorite DS/3DS Game of 2012: Shinobi? Not too sure on this one since I’ve only played a little RE and don’t own Devil Summoner Overclocked yet, but Shinobi is a fantastic old-school style action game.
    • Favorite PSP/Vita Game of 2012: Gungnir.
    • Favorite Android/iOS Game of 2012: Chaos Rings II?
    • Favorite Mobile/Portable Game of 2012: Gungnir.

    Geography
    • Favorite North American Developed Game of 2012: Mass Effect 3
    • Favourite European Developed Game of 2012: Spec Ops: The Line
    • Favorite Japanese Developed Game of 2012: Dark Souls
    • Favorite Game of 2012: Mass Effect 3, although it's extremely close with most of my PC list.

I think most of us are in this boat. That's why the GotY - Any Year threads tend to be more interesting than these ones.

I hope someone makes one of those.

    Console/PC Games
    • Favorite PC Game of 2012: Dominion. This might have come out a long time ago, but I think some of the expansions came out this year.
    • Favorite PS3 Game of 2012:Being John Malkovich Blu Ray. It's a close call between this and The Artist, but BJM's Michel Gondry commentary track solidifies it as The Best Disc You Can Put Into Your Playstation 3 released in 2012.
    • Favorite Wii/Wii U Game of 2012: Rhythm Heaven Fever
    • Favorite 360 Game of 2012: XCOM
    • Favorite Console/PC Game of 2012: Rhythm Heaven Fever. There is something special and inscrutable going on in every transaction between your ears, your finger, a button, and the screen in these games. It's probably For Real Magic.

    Mobile/Portable Games
    • Favorite DS/3DS Game of 2012: Pokemon Conquest
    • Favorite PSP/Vita Game of 2012: Gungnir
    • Favorite Android/iOS Game of 2012: Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer (see: Dominion)
    • Favorite Mobile/Portable Game of 2012: Gungnir. Sting is just the best -- one of the last bastions of Japanese creativity in gaming for sure. This is their magnum opus. It's the game they've been making all along; the point at which Yggdra Union, Knights in the Nightmare, and Riviera intersect.

    Geography
    • Favorite North American Developed Game of 2012: XCOM
    • Favourite European Developed Game of 2012: XCOM (?)
    • Favorite Japanese Developed Game of 2012: Rhythm Heaven Fever
    • Favorite Game of 2012: Rhythm Heaven Fever. A vote for Gungnir or XCOM would be a vote against Rhythm Heaven Fever. I can't bring myself to do that.

    Companies
    • Favorite Developer of 2012: Nintendo
    • Favorite Publisher of 2012: Atlus
    • Developer/Publisher I'll Miss the Most: Cliffy B.
    • Favorite Platform Owner of 2012: Nintendo. I bought two 2012 Wii games (Xenoblade, Rhythm Heaven) and had myself a good old time with those. The 3DS XL is nice, too.
    • Favorite Gaming News Source of 2012: I got most of it from a forum with the unfortunate URL, www.the-nextlevel.com
    • Favorite Game Retailer of 2012: GOG. I just got Deus Ex GOTY, Deus Ex: HR, and Thief 1-3 for like twelve dollars.
    • Favorite Company of 2012: Nintendo

    Crystal Ball
    • Most Anticipated Mobile/Portable Game of 2013: DQVII 3DS!
    • Most Anticipated Console/PC Game of 2013: Anarchy Reigns. I'm psyched.
    • Most Anticipated Hardware of 2013: No.
    • Most Daring Prediction for 2013: Suda 51 will be involved with something magnificent, finally proving to the world that Killer 7 was not a fluke.

  10. Console/PC Games
    • Favorite PC Game of 2012: XCOM Enemy Unknown - I could have loved this on any console but strategy games just feel at home on the PC.
    • Favorite PS3 Game of 2012: Mass Effect 3 - I'm sorta cheating here since the bulk of my time in the game was on the 360 but I didn't think there was anything better to run with.
    • Favorite Wii/Wii U Game of 2012: Kirby Collection? I think that's the only 2012 release I bought all year.
    • Favorite 360 Game of 2012: Borderlands 2 - I'm hovering around 300 hours of playtime with this one. Best game ever to bullshit with three friends while you all run around being badasses.
    • Favorite Console/PC Game of 2012: XCOM Enemy Unknown - I'll be playing this for years to come.

    Mobile/Portable Games
    • Favorite DS/3DS Game of 2012: Resident Evil: Revelations - Waiting on getting a 3DS XL to properly play all the way through but a 3D clasicc style RE game is tits.
    • Favorite PSP/Vita Game of 2012: Persona 4 Golden - Just barly started so far but nothing else came close.
    • Favorite Android/iOS Game of 2012: Dungeon Village - Kairosoft is very hit & miss but I love this one even more than Game Dev Story. I'm kind of ashamed how much time i've invested into this.
    • Favorite Mobile/Portable Game of 2012: Persona 4 Golden

    Geography
    • Favorite North American Developed Game of 2012: XCOM Enemy Unknown
    • Favourite European Developed Game of 2012: Rayman Origins (vita) - Not even sure what other games I played were developed in Europe.
    • Favorite Japanese Developed Game of 2012: Persona 4 Golden -
    • Favorite Game of 2012: XCOM Enemy Unknown

    Companies
    • Favorite Developer of 2012: Gearbox Software - Love how they're using social media to interact with players/fans of Borderlands.
    • Favorite Publisher of 2012: 2K - They let Fraxis develop a remake/sequel to X-COM, that earned them a lot of brownie points in my book.
    • Developer/Publisher I'll Miss the Most: Ray Muzyka/Greg Zeschuk
    • Favorite Platform Owner of 2012: Sony - PS+ is a steal at $50 a year, cross-buy games for the PS3/Vita is genius, and they have some pretty sick deals on digital content with the PS+ discount.
    • Favorite Gaming News Source of 2012: TNL? I don't look for news elsewhere anymore.
    • Favorite Game Retailer of 2012: Steam - Is this even a contest?
    • Favorite Company of 2012: Gearbox Software - They did a bang up job with Borderlands 2, it's pretty rare for the sequel to be a better game in every single regard.

    Crystal Ball
    • Most Anticipated Mobile/Portable Game of 2013: Dragon Quest VII!
    • Most Anticipated Console/PC Game of 2013: Dead Island Riptide
    • Most Anticipated Hardware of 2013: Is anything even official yet for 2013?
    • Most Daring Prediction for 2013: I will not buy a Wii U all year
Currently Playing: Final Fantasy V Pixel Remaster (PC), Let's Build a Zoo (PC) & Despot's Game (PC)
