I am playing Sonic gokarts. It probably is the best kart racer. There are better weapon oriented games (like Wipeout, but I much prefer the weaponless modes), but it beats the everliving hell out of the later Mario Karts.

There is still some dumb shit (like Battle Race, what a dumb ass mode), but the further you go and once you know about the flips in mid air to boost, it's better

The weapon design reminds me of SNES Mario Kart in how the weapons are useful but never overpowering. It's actually more beneficial in this game to be in the lead instead of trailing like in the later Mario Karts
