    #26 - Renegade (NES)

Just bought and beat Renegade on the NES. It's an arcade port of the first Kunio-kun game. The US arcade and NES versions were heavily modified to have this whole The Warriors vibe to it, which isn't bad at all. It feels like the spiritual predecessor to Double Dragon with many of the same moves and some VERY familiar mannerisms (most notably the leaning-forward-with-your-mouth-open after you hit someone enough to grab them). You have a ton of moves for such an early NES title! It was a little surprising. Sitting on a dude that's down on the floor and punching him in the face never gets old. There also seemed to be random powerups sometimes that I never quite figured out... a heart gives you health and a P lets you knock people down with one attack, but they only really showed up like once out of the three or so times I played. There are branching paths in the later stages and some optional boss fights! Wow! Overall it's pretty great.

Renegade was the first game I ever beat, good times. I need to reaquire it.

  3. I beat the main game of Harmoknight. It's really nice, but a little short.

    HOWEVER

The after-game is really freaking tough if you get all the birds, you get a secret world with super tough levels based on each of the regular worlds. The last Pokeeman track is hard enough at normal speed, but fast it's REDICULUS.
    Donk

  4. 6. Ducktales

    Pogocane is one classy mechanic.

What makes this game's obstacles interesting is the requisite normal jump before the pogojump is available. You have to be crafty about where and how you sneak in that jump depending on the enemy's speed and trajectory. That's why every encounter with the Amazon's bees and the Moon's persistent Robocops feels like a mini boss battle. These would not be threats if the A jump had the same pitch as the A, B. Superb enemy placement and patterns certainly help, too.

The actual boss battles do not feel like boss battles. I forgot this game even had bosses. I'll forget again.

  5. #5: SC: Heart of the Swarm

GG. The story started off kinda weak and was a bit out there at times, but overall I liked it. All of the characters were interesting and the single player campaign was fun. The art, of course, was fantastic, but I expected nothing less in that regard. I may or may not go back and attempt to collect the essence achievements that I missed, but I do plan on giving multiplayer a try.

    #27 - Double Dragon (NES)

This was way tougher than I remember. It uses a really weird experience system to unlock moves that doesn't really work all that great. The Great Wall of Bullshit at the start of Mission 4 ruined so many excellent runs.

    #28 - Ducktales (NES)

Got humbled by getting a game over without even beating the Amazon... I was having trouble holding the pogo until the first bounce, since you have to hold down and B until you hit the ground oe an enemy. After that first pogo you can just hold B, but I found myself letting go of down too early every time for some reason. Got the hang of the controls and tore it up. Still a great game. You go to Transylvania three times? What the eff.

I must have played this like an ASSHOLE when I was a kid. It's stupid easy if you don't let anybody die and build up the right stats for the right characters. I'm sure when I was little I just used Snake Eyes and his ki blasts all day.

    8. Ducktales (NES) Since it seems to be the cool thing to do nowadays.
Pretty much all that Mzo said. Game made me humble, etc.

I'm going to have to beat the OG-chan version of Duck Tales now too.

This could be what game club is like. It could be the NES game club and we could all try to beat the same game and give each other tips 'n tricks.

  10. I'm totally doing this. Not ever really playing ducktales is my secret shame.
