Thread: Completion Thread 2013: Prove the Justice of Our Culture

  1. Interesting, well this was the first SNES game I got to play through and beat on the SNES, which was part of the appeal.

  2. 8. Rescue Rangers

The world map is clumsy and adds nothing. As is usually the case, the game would have played better as a succession of all its stages. Other than that, not a masterpiece like Ducktales, but not bad! I dig the fast jumps and movement.

It is seriously good, right? I even like the stupid board game.
You're pretty much starting the game from scratch three times. I knew there was a high risk of burnout, and I'd be able to go back later for completion, so I didn't go for 100% with anyone. Still took me like three years off and on to finish.

    But yeah, it's way good.

  4. I was really scared of burnout because of that starting from scratch three times, but I found that the layouts were changed enough and I learned how to power up quickly for the subsequent times that it was never an issue.

  5. 3. Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3)
Only played for about an hour when it first came out. Turned out to be a good game with a good story. On the downside, the story missions needed more variety, not having checkpoints was occasionally frustrating, and Niko's friends are the biggest bunch of hyper sensitive babies ever.

    7. BioShock Infinite (PC, 1999)

This one certainly took longer than expected to complete, due in large part to vacation and my daughter's soccer season. I am a big fan of underwater settings in games, whether it's Ecco, Deep Fear, or the original BioShock. Taking that away from me stacked odds against this one a bit. My early impressions that this was an anti-American statement didn't help either. However, as the story unfolded, and I understood the real message being sent, I came to greatly appreciate it. Yes, Irrational fell short of delivering a nonlinear experience, but in some ways, wasn't that the point? Infinite may not have matched the impact of the original, but next to a sea of Call of Duty and Halo, it's certainly a lighthouse.

  7. There was probably something before this but...

    1. FTL (PC, 2012)

After months of playing I finally defeated the flagship on normal difficulty. This is one of the best games I've played in a long time and I can see myself playing it for years to come. I still need to unlock 2 ships and the crystal men but those will require luck more than anything else.

  8. Beat Injustice's story mode late Tuesday night. Really good acting from the whole cast, the plot's pretty good, and it's got Solomon Grundy getting mad at ARROW MAN. He's a real highlight of the whole thing since he has very few lines, but they're all comedy gold.

  9. 13) Papo & Yo- short, lovely, sad, clever, unpolished. Definitely a mixed bag, but the metaphor of the monster worked and I loved its use of 3D space. I can't say it was a great game but it's unquestionably memorable, and I'm glad I played it.

#31 - Rayman Jungle Run (iOS)

Really good endless runner type game with actual levels and collectibles. It's really more like Rayman Origins except Rayman doesn't stop moving ever. It's a lot better than I'm making it sound. Missing the last two achievements because I don't really want to memorize the whole main game. Found everything in the basic game and the three extra levels that have been added.

    #32 - Rayman Origins (Vita)

The iOS game inspired me to go back and finish off this game, which is excellent. Finished off all the trophies. Great game, got all the trophies.
