Thread: Street fighter II Champion Edition/Hyper Fighting

  1. Street fighter II Champion Edition/Hyper Fighting

Which of the 16 bit/8bit systems had the better home port of this game. I've played the Genesis & SNES ports to death and think the Snes version is better. But what about the PC Engine port? How does that hold up against the other two?

Unless you have arcade sticks, the Genesis version is the best, simply because the SNES dogbone is one of the worst fighting game controllers out there. The PC Engine version compares favorably with the other two, but again, the Avenue Pad 6 and the Duo RX pad leave a little to be desired.

  3. Very tough question.

The PCE one has good character animation, but it's missing a layer of parallax. Unfortunately, it lacks the Turbo features. Character voices are not bad, and the game play of CE is preserved.

On Genesis, the game play is pretty much the same as the SNES. The elephants make noise during the match in Dhalsim's stage, but it's very scratchy. Every character's voice sounds like they've been eating sandpaper. The color palette is reduced, but Capcom did choose colors wisely to make do with 64 as well as possible. Another 4 or 8 Megabits could probably have nailed the voice problem (I've heard better voice samples in Rolling Thunder 3).

SNES would probably be the best one. Just get the right stick (or cannibalize a "Milk Bone" to BYO with the good stuff from some arcade parts maker like Happ Controls ) and you're all set.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

  4. I never had a problem with the SNES controller on SF2. As long as you are even the slightest bit able to adapt to something different I don't see a problem.

    I agree.

  6. The Super Nintendo one is definitely the best. And the standard controller was just fine.

    Genesis SF2
    + comfortable conrtols
+ plays just as good as the arcade version
    - sound is scratchy as shit
    - graphics can't hold up to the SNES version

    SNES SF2
    + better graphics
    + better sound
+ plays just as good as the arcade version
    - controls are bearable but not as good as the Genny version

Personally I like the Genny version better just because I can play it with a six (face) button controller

  8. Go with the genesis version.

You can play it on the go on a Sega Nomad.

    Nuff said.

  9. i say go with the SNES one i had no probs with the SNES controller but then again i learned SF on a console on the SNES

IMHO as far as standard come with the system pads go the SNES one is the second best for fighting games with the saturns pad being number 1

  10. Quit bringing controllers into the issue! The question isn't what system has the best fighting pad, the question is what system has the best version of the game. The game is compleatly unrelated to the standard issue system pad. An arcade stick can be had for all three systems anyway. That being said, the SNES version is far and away the most arcade accurate.
