If it were Razer vs. Oculus, it would be a toss up, but I'm looking at this as Valve vs. facebook. That's the easiest trust choice ever.
Valve and 50+ others are behind OSVR.
But that doesn't mean that there is only "one standard." I mean, why do we trust that Razer put together a good standard? They can barely put together a mouse that works for more than 6 months. Their software is deplorable.

Keep in mind Facebook has John Carmack. He's kind of good at these sort of things.
I don't know, I'm just saying that the market needs to shake out a bit.
id Tech 5 is amazing. 60fps, scalable, looks great on 360 and a high end PC, etc.
Carmack is ride or die with OpenGL, so no surprise there.
Right but OpenGL doesn't work right on one of the two major card manufacturers, which is proabably a decent reason to go another route.
well I wonder what one should do about that
To the best of my knowledge, Rift supports OSVR just fine. Or at least the DK2 does, and I highly doubt that's changing for the final release- http://www.osvr.com/join.html
Dividing the market is insane, and I think both Valve and Oculus know this. There's a ton of cross-pollination between the two companies and it doesn't help either of them to turn a rich-kid's-toy market into something that can't support either piece of hardware. First VR can be successful, then companies can start fighting for market dominance.

Going by that it looks pretty damn responsive! And being bundled with every headset is obviously a big deal.
