Thread: Namco Plans New "Eatertainment" Chain

I'm fine with it as long as I can completely ignore the DLC and still have fun with the game I bought.

  2. I threw some Tiger Woods golf games out my front door because every other screen was trying to sell me something. I'm fine with there being the option of additional content as long as the game itself is complete, but I if I don't want to buy it, I shouldn't have to see anything about it.

  3. Like I said, case-by-case basis. Those TW games got raked over the coals for that.

  4. Golf isn't for poor people, even in video games.

Most Nickel City locations closed, and I don't think they're associated with Capcom anymore.

This sounds even better. 368 games on the floor... fuck yeah. And you pay a single-shot $15 fee for unlimited play- no cards or tokens needed. Now THIS is the real deal.
I went to the GGA opening, there are a bunch of these types of arcades trying to open in the area now. I wonder if it's only Chicago? Its great to visit once every couple months maybe, but you can't just stop in for a couple quick games, at $15 a day. When you pay the entry, you're committed for the day/evening, and there's only so much old gaming you can play without getting a bit burned out. Part of the lure of the arcade was cheap entry that would continue to leech a dollar at a time from you. GGA really does the best job it can, it holds events pretty often, I hope it's profitable and sticks around.

On topic, this sounds more like old people who think they remember video games than pizza finger kids. I can't imagine it will do well as a business, and I definitely don't think it will be anything fans of new and old arcades games would frequent. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Having taken a real long look at the lineup: Quantity is good, but it really could use a few more newer games alongside the others. Maybe Ibara (shouldn't cost much more than a couple hundred, since it's one of the lower priced Cave boards) and a few other post-2000 STGs would be nice. Out of their current lineup, what I'd go for would be from the 1990s and later mostly, though as a diversion it could be fun to try some of the earlier stuff I missed out on. Thanks to MAME and various compilations on PS1 and later consoles, I've found that some older titles do play well. The Galaga/Ms. Pac Man 2-game cabs I've seen at D&B and movie theaters are a little too retro. I'd probably give some attention to one if it also had Galaga '88 or Pac-Mania.

Some titles on the floor are PS3 cabs (KOF XII & XIII, Ultimate MVC3, SSF4AE, & Tekken 6). Good way to add a few newer titles on the cheap. I wouldn't mind seeing another PS3 arcade cabinet set up with a PS Move and some gun games like the Time Crisis: Razing Storm and Resident Evil Chronicles compilations, etc.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)
