I got all of the old tech/character/planets "Essential Guides" back around 96-98 and was up to date with everything (in a more bare bones way) until that point but fell behind as well. The Legacy comics (set 100+ years after the OT) was the last thing I got into. I read up on the SW wiki a little while ago and wasn't too keen on what they had done with the EU. The prequel stuff (Exar Kun era, Han Solo, etc...not the movies) and the stuff set in the immediate years after RotJ was overall pretty well done. The writers could have been a lot more creative after that. They took the EU too far in my opinion; killing characters like Chewbacca and just constantly introducing the next great new threat after the next. It kind of makes the victorious ending of RotJ pointless when you find that the characters are still consumed with constant and never ending conflict 40 years after the fact; never actually getting the peace that was supposed to come from defeating the Empire. It made sense in the immediate aftermath because obviously the Empire wasn't just going to go away after they lost the Emperor and the second Death Star.

That's why I could never really get into ongoing comic book series. I don't like the idea of milking storylines completely dry and never giving any sort of conclusive resolution.

  2. I remember reading the first Han Solo book and being super-impressed with it. Then I tried to go back and start at the earliest stuff like Truce at Bakura and the first Thrawn book, and quit those immediately as the writing was unbelievably wooden, amateurish garbage in comparison. Total night and day.

I should really go back and read those second two Han books.

I liked the x-wing books. Never finished them though. Wedge is badass.

Indeed. In the books Luke was a great pilot through the use of the Force. Wedge was just that damn good.

I read most of that stuff when I was mostly in the 10-12 age range. I guess it may not have been as awesome as I remember.

He was always my favorite SW character. I was really upset that they never had an action figure for him. I think they eventually made one but I never had it.

I read through all of the EU for years but only remember the Heir to the Empire trilogy being worth a damn. I'm surprised someone could just dismiss them. Are these Han books newer? Don't remember them.

Remember when they used those force paddles they found on Coruscant on Wedge? I was so worries they would shit him up and make him a latent Jedi but it came up negative. Fuck yes.

  8. Those Thrawn books aren't as good as you remember. Meh.

Some original chars/stories w/legends in cameo roles could be cool.

    Like Paul Blart, Rancor Keeper.
