I meant that if I'm only going to do singleplayer I should just play what I have instead of dropping $40 on a slight upgrade just to have it portable.
MH Tri is getting shut down in a second, so unfortunately that's not an option.

That reminds me, I better turn it on to make sure I didn't have anything 95% done that I wanted to finish.

It's actually an enormous update and, to me at least, the portability alone is worth it.
You can play together with other people that have it and with the WiiU version locally. I think you might be able to join them online, but I'd have to check. It might not do both at once.
HA! HA! I AM USING THE INTERNET!!1

I don't know anyone locally who would ever buy it, no one besides me who owns a 3DS, and one person who owns a WiiU but he was just a passing acquaintance. You can't play local co-op and go online at the same time through one WiiU.
So for multiplayer my choices are buying a WiiU or waiting for MH4.
If you really like MonHun, I would advise getting a WiiU. It's so great to play it 1)on a large screen 2) with visuals that don't make you puke when played on an hdtv and 3) with a controller that actually accentuates play.
I love using the tablet for this game. Touch screen shortcuts are the bees knees. My Wii U has seen more use in the last two weeks than it had in the previous two months.
I'd say even if you don't like Monster Hunter, try it on WiiU if you can. I didn't like the previous editions, but I love this game.
Is the method for getting those special weapons the same as in Tri? Date specific online events for unique items?
