Thread: Saints Row IV

  1. The environments seem poorly-optimized for the superpowers - it's easy to get stuck in little parts of the houses. They feel really tacked on too, like they said hey superpowers are a big deal now! Let's put them in the game...somehow! MONEY!

  2. This game is tons of fun, but it seems like the 360 is really chugging. If it's your only option for playing the game, I'd still play it, but it's waaaaay smoother on a decent PC. Even if you can't turn on all the bells and whistles the PC framerate is worth the trade. I've played 70% of this on a Redboxed 360 disc, but when this hits $20 on PC I'm playing it again.

  3. Might as well just wait for it to be bundled up again rather than pay $20 if you've already enjoyed it on 360.

In terms of overall consistency and performance, there's not much in it between the 360 and PS3 versions, though it's the Xbox 360 game that's the one to have if you're in the position of choosing between the two platforms owing to its resolution, image quality and streaming advantages. The action is a little smoother and the sharper image is definitely preferable this time around compared with the situation in Saints Row: The Third, where the softer nature of the PS3 release is joined with comparable performance to the 360, but without the screen tear.

That said, the console versions of Saints Row 4 fall well short compared to the PC game, where the opportunity for smoother and more stable frame-rates dramatically transforms the core gameplay experience, making it far more enjoyable as a result. The graphical upgrades in other areas might not be a colossal leap forward over the 360 game, but the combination of more refined visuals and better performance make it the preferred choice. The same holds true when running the game on reasonably low-spec machines, in which the ability to run at a solid 30fps in 720p or 1080p provides a similarly welcome upgrade over the console releases, even without achieving the aspirational 60fps experience that represents the minimal requirement for enthusiast PC gaming. PC should be first choice then, as you would expect at this late stage in the console cycle.

The penultimate sentence is pretty damning. You can't even get 30fps at 720p from the console versions? Jesus Christ.

  5. You can't get 30 FPS a lot of times. The last console game I finished, TLoU, hovered around 24 a decent amount of time.

  6. These systems can't get it done anymore. In fact SR3 was the game that motivated me to get a PC, and that game came out 18 months ago. I'm definitely glad a new generation is coming.

  7. Just finished the Metal Gear level, and look what popped up next...

And, despite what Cheebs says, the fact that the PS4 has over a million preorders, and the Xbox One has hundreds of thousands, says that you are not alone.

  10. Holy shit!

Near the end of the game you stumble across Keith David and Rowdy Roddy Piper fighting in an alley. Afterwards, the Hot Rod joins you.
