Ghostbusters is about conservativism. The real bad guy isn't Zool; it's The Man. The real hero isn't Egon or Peter, it's entrepreneurism. That's So Reagan.

I'd argue that it is actually about the baby boomers. About men that must live in the period after "men killed god, and removed magic from the world" during world war 2.

This is symbolized by making the catching of undead ghost common place, and culminated with the death of Zule (a god). The God is further mocked and shown to be ridiculous (A giant staypufted marshmallow man).

Or in simpler terms, it symbolizes the 80s in that miracles have become mundane and 'business as usual' in much the same way that having running water and the plumber that fixes it is 'business as usual'
