Picking the wrong lead was the least of that movie’s problems.
I think if they were going with Ryan Reynolds they should have picked Kyle. If you're going to bother with Hal Jordan you need somebody who can pull off grey temples

How Marvel movies work- Marvel puts out a movie and people like it or don't with no regard for the character history. The comics simply don't matter other than being the place Marvel's movie division goes to for inspiration.

I dunno, I'd say the Marvel movies have a lot of reverence for the comics, certainly a heap more than comic movies did before them.
But they're also not afraid to play a little loose with them when they have to, which is just as well. Nobody really wants or needs these things to accurately emulate how goddamn convoluted and tied into knots the actual comics get.
Pip the Troll does not need to be in Infinity War.
