Thread: Gravity

  1. Gravity

He's been working on this movie forever, but Alfonso Cuaron's next movie is almost here!

  2. I like the concept, it's pretty scary to drift away in space.

Can't help but be reminded of Solaris though because George Clooney + Space.

  3. This hasn't been mentioned at all and it's out! The reviews have been glowing (to say the least) and for good reason. I'd recommend seeing it in Imax 3D for the Full Effect, but at the very least you need a theater with a good sound system. The sound work is half the movie as it sells the feeling of isolation and holyfuckingshit that the amazing visuals produce. It really has to be seen to be believed, Cuaron has to win an Oscar for this.

The highest praise I can give it is that it really looks like it was filmed in space. It's totally convincing and Bullock is really great in it, I never actually thought about her separately from her character. Clooney is funny and does his role well too, but it's more her movie. At an hour and a half long this movie is concise and to the point. straight up survival in the most inhospitable environment imaginable. Easily the best sci-fi (I guess that fits) movie of the year and a front runner for best movie of the year.

It doesn't have enough space sharks or mosquito men to be SyFy, so I think you're absolutely correct.

I'm avoiding this movie like the plague for the sole reason that it looks SO well done. Just the concept looks terrifying to me, more so than any horror movie I can think of.

    This. It was this.

The trailers don't really sell me on it because it looks like the actors act as audience proxies instead of acting the way actual astronauts would: calm, rational, and professional.

There are no rules, only consequences.

Trailers showing someone acting calm and professional wouldn't sell the movie well. People want drama and shit crashing into other shit.

  8. To be fair, the fictional event that unfolds in the movie that causes the situation IS unprecedented, and the only one panicking is Sandra Bullock, who is not an astronaut by trade and was only up there because she knew how to do some kind of routine engineering work on the Hubble. The one guy who IS a seasoned astronaut does exactly as you think one would: Acted in a calm, collected, rational manner.

  9. This was pretty good. Go see it in 3d for sure.
    Xbox Live- SamuraiMoogle

  10. I thought this was VERY good, it really hits all those scary notes when it comes to space dangers although the whole blowing up satellites thing was kind of a dumb device to make all the bad shit happen.

    Anyway, I'd definitely recommend it.
