They also asked him to direct the next one, while they were doing post-production work on FF6. They wanted to start filming in July. The Rock already backed out, because it would conflict with the filming of Hercules.
Sadly, it's not happening. Justin Lin bolted because the studio wanted to churn out another sequel ASAP because it's their only reliable franchise (which is a great way to kill off a series, BTW), and he felt a rush-job would affect the quality.
Hopefully the new director (James Wan, the Saw guy) doesn't fuck the whole franchise up.

I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.
No Rock/Hobbs too? My hopes are getting crushed hard here, he steals every scene he's in. At least they went out strong with this great movie.
Also, it didn't hit me until reading about it today that, re: the mid-credits scene, Statham is Shaw's brother who he mentioned earlier in the movie.
Two minor things bugged me about Furious Six. In terms of the movie, O'Connor infiltrating the Los Angeles prison to speak with Braga ultimately felt pointless. In terms of the story, as soon as Shaw personally threatened Dom I knew they needed to protect Mia and child. Which they sort of did I suppose, but we saw how effective that was.
Tyrese/Roman was hilarious in this movie, they nailed it with him.
Just saw this, great flick. It's sad to see that they are going to be churning these things out fast, because the team they got in place here has been doing great work since FF4.
I agree with Geo, Rock is great in this series - he's the only guy who can make Vin Diesel look small. He's like Chris Redfield in RE5 at this point.
I heard the plane scene is like 15 minutes long and would have required a runway over 30 miles long.
Also someone about a quarter mile track race that takes over a minute in a previous movie, so they were racing at the break neck speed of 15mph.
These movies look terrible to me, what don't I understand?
You think too much.
I've heard so many overwhelmingly positive things about these movies recently that I know that I have to check them out.
Major LOLs in the movie when Rock calls someone on their cell phone and the caller ID says "SAMOAN THOR."
Actually, the problem is he doesn't think enough. This shit has been happening since the first movie. It's why the series is awesome.
But that said, I did run across this the other day:
If you're a DVD kinda guy Walmart is selling the entire series for $5 a movie. I'd say it's worth it.

I think I saw the first one and thought it was okay. I'm pretty sure I was also not really paying attention. Been meaning to sit down and plow through this series but I also don't know anyone who will watch them with me, which is part of what's stopped me for so long.
I haven't seen the new one, but I like the series. 1 was pretty good. 2 was only a little not as good. 3 was the low point, and then 4 and 5 picked up steam and got the series close to where it once was.
