Responsiveness isn't the issue. The dpad is just too big, slightly painful too use, and I have a hard time not hitting the diagonals accidentally. I vastly prefer a cross dpad to a fat, mashy square with painful lines on it. The buttons are also maybe too tall? I wouldn't like the controller new out of the box.

Yeah, that's probably the way to go. I didn't want to fuck with my two perfect 6 button Genesis controllers but I'll definitely mod a cheap three-button when I find one.

My six button arcade pad feels SO GOOD. Oh baby.

  3. The SMS controller is so simple that you could probably salvage the cord from the control pad and MacGyver an arcade stick out of household items.

  4. I used a SMS pad to play through Wonderboy in Monster Land in English, but the JP version on the cart actually works fine with the Genesis pad. Same deal with Bomber Raid. I don't know what the full deal is (probably something in the header), but the games play fine with the Genesis controller with my Genesis switched to JP with the PBC and my Japanese SMS. JP SMS with Tototek adapter to play US/EU games works out especially well for Bomber Raid. Built in rapid fire, FM sound, and Genesis pad compatibility for the win!

Strange. I have a Korean Mark III and for some reason Genesis controllers don't work with it. The system looks like a Japanese Mark III and plays Japanese games but maybe the insides aren't identical.

  6. Odd. I don't know with the deal is there. Do the games with multiple languages play in Japanese on there?

I don't know. The only Japanese games I have for it are Megumi Rescue and Girl's Garden.

Yeah, I had to do the same. Dropping spells left and right like an incontinent bastard. I kind of love that game.

Seconded. The Japanese Mark III game boxes destroy them. Why did SoA have to ditch good boxart like the one for OutRun below?

Cases over boxes is more important than the art if we have to choose.
