I can't seem to really chain drifts? But then again I don't really know how to play.

It's and OK game I guess, really not top tier IMO

Rainbow Road was pretty cool though

Also, push (-) on the Gamepad and it turns on the mic it has. I was doing that for voice chat!

Does it matter what kart/tires/sail you choose, or is it all cosmetic?

There are two factors to stats - the character (which determines a baseline stat) and parts (which alter the baseline). If you push (+) while picking parts you can see how stats change.

They don't let you hold a long, uninterrupted boost chain together like in Sonic Transformed. You also can't change directions in the middle of a power slide without letting go of the drift button and starting a brand new power slide animation.

So you have to decide before you enter a turn whether it's a curve that can be "blue boosted" through or "red boosted" through. The "red boost" takes longer to achieve, but it gives your kart more speed.

They also added the ability to boost in zero gravity mode just by bumping into objects and other karts.

And you can boost off any jump by pressing the power slide button right before liftoff.
