'Tis an awesome thing to see
And he should be embarrassed.
That game collection sucks.
I swear, I was a pioneer of gamer MRAs. I should get an internet award for being a piece of shit long before this guy knew what a CAPCOM was.
Obviously, these days I don't give a shit because who the fuck cares who plays games anymore? Seriously - in the early days of geek/gamer culture (2000s,) much like this pizza faced bro here, was really concerned about 'fake' gamer girls encroaching on my territory. (I....uh, think most of you probably remember that.) But here's the thing - in some ways, back then, it made sense. Gaming was still somewhat a niche deal, it made you kind of strange, kinda nerdy, blah blah. As a girl, who actually played games and such, you were an object of desire. If someone acted "fake" it was pretty obvious who they were and that they didn't belong in the "clique." Nowadays, everyone carries a cel phone with access to literally millions of games, and modern gaming is completely mainstream. Yet there are these assholes out there that still treat it like this hole-in-the-wall internet secret. IT ISN'T!!! It's so weird. I see the female equivalent of this guy too - girls who still wave the gaming flag like it makes them a unique snowflake in the year 2014. The internet is so annoying.
shut up
She's right though, mostly. I'd attach the "fake gamer let's rage" thing more to an age group than a time period.
4chan, mostly.
Most of us never really grow up. That dude is just choosing to hold on to one of the dumber parts of youth. He may also be a proponent of Men's Rights and/or a furry.
That and ad revenue, yes.
The question for me isn't "Why do people still care?", but rather "Why did people care in the first place?" It's not a big deal.
I was never the guy at EB who drooled over the "gamer girl," but I also wasn't on a crusade against "girls" who didn't seem to meet some arbitrary level of geekiness.
Nerds and geeks do some dumb shit, fuck.
