The most evil documentary you've never heard of

an hour and a half of a rose tented view of Nazi germany. Sounds like it was scored by Walt Disney.

    The Great Dictator

probably one of the best war comedies made. The slapstick humor is worth one viewing alone.

  4. Triumph of the Will is a hugely famous movie, man.

And Leni Riefenstahl is probably the most famous and influential documentary filmmaker. Butt's just trolling.

I'd be impressed if anyone that doesn't claim to be a film buff knows who she is. Or if half this board did.

I've seen both those movies... just saying.

The Great Dictator is a lot better than it should be.

  8. I've seen 'em both, too. Ages ago. Wot ees 'cheeks on about, eh?

  9. I think IP is only discovering Triumph Of The Will and The Great Dictator now, and wrongfully assumed that most people did not know about them already.

Yes, IP, Leni Riefenstahl is very well known to anyone who has even a passing knowledge of WWII history and/or film history.

Sasha Baron Cohen's "The Dictator" is a remake of "The Great Dictator", in case you didn't know.

Watch the original Star Wars trilogy again, and you'll see how inspired Lucas was by the panoramic views of the Nuremberg rallies in Triumph of the Will.

Frankly, any film depiction of the Nazis, or any Nazi-inspired pageantry sequence in film, is based on Riefenstahl's work to some degree.

What is interesting to think about is that BOTH films were made well before the U.S. entered the war: Triumph of the Will in 1935, and The Great Dictator in 1940.
