Because the sequel to the film version of American Psycho turned out so well. Patrick Bateman didn't give a shit about anything other than himself (and even then in the most superficial possible way). He wouldn't be interested in "social experiments" or training a protege, and that's assuming he murdered anyone at all, since the movie heavily implies that everything was happening in his head.

That's not how I read the ending. The movie's ending is confusing because, like the rest of the movie, it doesn't do much to indicate the amount of time that's gone by. So it makes it seem like the last day shown takes place right after the previous day, when in fact those two scenes took place months apart. This is why the real estate agent is so creeped out by him being there. She knows what happened there, but it was some time ago. I read the point as being not so much that it didn't happen but that no one noticed. No one can ever keep anyone's name straight for the whole movie, and everyone is too up their own asshole to notice that Patrick is an out of control maniac. Some of stuff near the end is probably not real, but I don't think the point is that none of it was.
