Thread: This Month's Haul - October, 2013

  1. I was just being spicy. I used to like comics. I could probably get back into the scene, but who has the time/money/space. Not me.

  2. There are ways around two of those obstacles, yet I still can't be bothered anymore.
The magic found in nostalgia can't be recaught, and the stuff put out today just isn't for me.

  3. I used to like comics too, which is why the overwhelming majority of what I buy is from that period. Modern comics can mostly GTFO.

  4. About the only comics I've liked in the past 10ish years (not that I've read them all, of course) has been Greg Pak's Hercules & Amedeus Cho, Brubaker's Captain America, Palmiotti's Jonah Hex (not All-Star Western) Fraction's Immortal Iron Fist, the Hedge Knight books, The Sixth Gun, the newest Conan series from Darkhorse, Lord Baltimore, Secret Warriors, the Chuckles GI Joe Cobra arcs, Straczynski's Thor.

Read a couple issues of Saga on my brother's kindle. Seemed pretty interesting. I stopped halfway through Y: the last man (same author), but it was pretty okay for a while, I guess. Liked the first couple of TPBs of Walking Dead I read but the number of volumes scares me away.

I never really got the appeal of super hero comics. Too many retreads. I did like the animated batman which got me into some olderstuff retroactively.

  6. You should watch the PBS documentary "Superheroes: A Never Ending Battle".

Oh, you can watch in online for a limited time:

  7. Bought EX Troopers on the PS3 for $30 on ebay. Saw a review of this on Youtube and it looked pretty awesome, and it was going for $10 less than Play Asia's base price, with free shipping, so I jumped on it.

  8. I picked up a new case; Corsair's Obsidian 750D for $149 from Microcenter.

The bad new is that I lost my motherboard (Asus P8Z68-V) during the transition from my old case, to the new.

My motherboard reported that it couldn't see a boot drive, so I removed it from the case and set it up outside the case. It posted to bios and I was able to get it running with a video card and my SD boot drive, so I decided to put it back into the case. Again, it failed, even after resetting the CMOS. I ended up putting my old C2Q (Q9650) setup in the case for now, until I can get another board for my i5-2500k.

Here are some pictures of how it looked when I had everything assembled.

  9. Picked up a Chromecast streaming device yesterday, returning it today. So much potential, so very hamstringed. What it does it does very well, but it's walled off to the point of irrelevance.

  10. Yeah, it's pretty sad that they haven't done anything else with that thing. I bought one for Netflix on the bedroom TV and it works beautifully for that but it really should be doing a whole lot more. I'd love an option for playing local music at least.
