Eurogamer probably has the finest collection of game journalists at the moment. KillScreen is up there too. I'm loving this Games of the Generation series.
Slide that goalpost around as you see fit.
Boo, Hiss.

Super Meat Boy is excellent because of its controls and level design. It's a different design philosophy than most of the OG platformers but it does what it wants to do extremely well.
HA! HA! I AM USING THE INTERNET!!1
My Backloggery
I really didn't care at all about Super Meat Boy until Yoshi said it couldn't compete against the best vintage platformers
but now i think it's the best game of the generation and i hope they declare it as such tomorrow
Donk
Yeah, it's kinda not the same thing at all. We call beatmania and Um Jammer Lammy "rhythm games," but we know they're different in the same way Meat Boy and Rockin' Kats are.
o. mai. gad. The Japanese title of Rockin' Kats is "New York Nyankees."
Any room on that Famicom bandwagon left for me?
And wrapping up the list is Super Mario Galaxy, completing the 360 shutout.
It just ignores little things like art, graphics, etc. That's exactly what I'm talking about with "there is absolutely no way Super Meat Boy is as good as the best vintage platformers as a complete package." These retro games are lazy by definition. They want to rest on someone else's laurels for a sense of nostalgia instead of actually putting in the effort to make a modern game with classic gameplay.
