  3. He's working on comics again so it's okay. It might even be better this way.

  4. Good friend of mine went to see this with my brother when they screened it in NYC a few weeks back. My brother loved it, friend less so. They said it's a lot like Miyazaki's other "slice of life" style movies. Don't expect it to be as actively provocative or subversive as all the outrage from the media would have you believe. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, just what I've been told. I guess you'd have to have been raised in Japan/Korea to really understand what the controversy was about.

All that aside, I really want to see this. I liked Ponyo as a slice of life film and I don't expect this to be any less good.

  5. i think "concrete road" when you say "slice of life", not "the world as we know it is completely destroyed but ponyo's fine"

  7. Well, you're right about Ponyo's plot being full of crazy unlikely supernatural things, but ultimately it's all moot compared to what the movie is trying to convey. Sort of like Totoro is full of crazy cat buses and gigantic trees but it's all just insubstantial noise as a backdrop for the more mundane goings-on in a person's life.

  8. Come, witness the day-to-day trials of the Overfiend in Urotsukidoji: A Mid-Summer's Afternoon Tentacle Rape.
    Donk

  9. A high-pitched whistle pierces the air.

The Overfiend sighs, now awake earlier than he would like and irritated that Akemi is up so early in the morning again. He snakes one of his penile appendages through the house to turn off the stove and silence the tea kettle.
