I found it really easy, too, but only because you can get up there without climbing the cages. If you go to where you would get on the roller coaster, you can hover over to the base of the walkway/cage where most of the red coins were in the collect the red coins stage. From the top of that walkway, you can hover to the top of the tower that the ferris wheel is connected to.

It's not hard to do it the regular way, either...

You do know that all you do is use the spray nozzle on the movable gates back there, right? You can be standing on top of the gates and shoot them from weird angles, and they'll still flip, as long as they get hit by water. They don't ask you to do any type of incredible jumps or anything...

Oh, and one more thing I didn't realize until later on in the game... it is a HELL of a lot easier to jump down to the mushrooms under Pianta Village from the left side of the bridge than from the green platform where the bridge starts. You can avoid that stupid trampoline mushroom entirely.

  3. The problem with the back of hte ferris wheel isn't the jumps, it's the camera. At least it was for me.

Thanks for the tip about Pianta Village. I just stopped playing an hour ago or so after my 6 or 7th time dying in a row from the trampoline mushroom.

  4. From the little I've played of this game (and it's very little indeed, haven't had much time to play cuz of work) it is great. I'm only 8 shines in so I know I can't pass much judgement, but the controls are excellent, tight and responsive. I was suprised to find that the game is a bit of a challenge, unlike SM64. The platforming parts, in the caves, had me a little frustrated, and I'm guessing it will only get harder, but a challenge is never a bad thing, so it's all good. Now on with my quest for 120 shines.
Well that's like, your opinion, man.

  5. When I went back to the ferris wheel last night, I beat it easily. Turns out I was doing it wrong (I was leaping and hovering from cage wall to cage wall, I didn't realize you could spray the flipping walls and climb right over), once I figured that out it was a walk in the park.

Got up to like 77 Shines last night and reached what I'm guessing is the final area, but after trying it a few times I found I was too tired to attempt it properly. Time to show my hand...

I kinda figured that was the problem... I did the same thing the very first time I tried it.

Oh, and here's another tip, concerning the Mudboats. (There's one in the first Noki Bay stage and one in Corona Mountain).

Your spray works like a rudder in them... stand in the back, face the back of the boat and spray to move forward. If you want to turn right, you have to stand in the back, face right, and spray. That'll move the butt of the boat to the left, pointing the nose to the right. Get it? Don't try to move the boat while standing in the middle... stand at the front or at the rear. It's a little tricky the first time.

    Wait a minute...that's me!

  8. I hate those boats! I hate them I hate them I hate them! Great idea, stupid physics! Why is that sometimes if I stand at the right side of the boat and shoot water off that side my boat will go right? How is it travelling in the same direction as its pushing force? Gah!

    MAD SPOILER, YO.

Alright, just beat the game (and grabbed a few more Shines), and must say I hate that last battle (and no, it doesn't stand up to the coolness that is flinging Bowser around by his tail). All this talk about people falling through floors, and here I was gonna spout off about how I've encountered no such problems, then they decide to rear their ugly head during the final battle.

No less then three times did I smash the floor during that battle and immediately (before I even touched the controls again) shot right through the floor to my death. Greargh! As if Mario's reluctance to turn the hell around and wall-jumping off falling pieces of hot tub into the giant pit wasn't enough trouble for me...

    END SPOILER.

For those of you going for all Shines, wait to get the 100 coin one for the plaza until after you beat the game. It's a million times easier, I did it the hard way. Damn birds...

  9. That avatar was getting a little moldy anyway. This one goes well with the custom status .

  10. I had the exact same wall-jumping and clipping problems (and that was also the only place I had any problems with clipping) with the final battle. It would've sucked even without those problems, though.
