I love that we haven't found anything as good as film yet. Or magnetic tape. Or vinyl.
2001 is still the best looking movie ever made imo. It was shot on some ridiculous film stock like 80mm or something, so everything looks ridiculously clean (for reference, most feature films have been shot on 35mm). 4k won't even come close to capturing the detail of the original film reels.

David Attenborough's Life series is pretty amazing on Blu-ray.
Barry Lyndon is visually the most incredible film I've ever seen.
I was sure that this would be a Tyler Durden thread.
See, I was just going to slog through Avatar again. I appreciate these suggestions.
Speed Racer looks fantastic on blu-ray. When it came out it was a go-to movie to show off the format, too. Of course, that was a while ago, but it still looks great and is ridiculously colorful.

I heard it was terrible. Confirm/deny?
Anything Pixar looks crazy good.

Speed Racer has its fans and detractors. I had a blast with it despite going in with very low expectations, and I know a lot of other people did too. On the other hand, lots of people find it really stupid, too. Sorry I can't be more definite, but it's a polarizing movie. Personal view- damn fun movie and it looks fantastic.

I enjoy Speed Racer for the very reason that it is so stupid. It knows EXACTLY how stupid it is and invites you to join in the stupidity and smile and have fun! And, yeah, it looks GREAT. It's the most impressive looking Blue Ray I own and I also have that dumb collectors Avatar nonsense.
If Speed Racer would have been serious, it would have been stupid in a different way and completely forgettable besides being #3 in some Buzzfeed article about bad cartoon movies.
