Thread: I've Never Seen a Blu-Ray

  1. Blu-ray is great for cartoons and special effects stuff. My second favorite Blu-ray is actually the Cowboy Bebop movie. The print quality is SOOOO good! It's as if someone is just quickly replacing the painted cels in front of me.

Otherwise I can't be assed to look for it unless it's crazy cheap or a set.

  2. Speaking of cartoon Blu Rays, Redline melts your eyes off. It's also a sci-fi high speed racing movie! Also Ponyo.

  3. No less deserving thing ever won TNL's collective boner than that awful Redline.

  4. You can borrow Speed Racer but you have to come to my apartment to get it (and bring my blender)

  5. Redline is gorgeous, totally worthy of a Blu-Ray watch. The story... not so much.

I did think of it but stuck with Speed Racer because it's a better and more fun movie in the same vein without a boring middle.

  7. I too am a huge fan lol, fat jokes of Gone With the Wind, though I've never seen the bluray version...and though I had heard of the movie for as long as I can remember, it was only 6 years ago or so that I actually watched it.
I fell in love and told my mom, oh my god this movie is so great, it has EVERYTHING!. She was all, yeah, people have only been saying that for 60 years!

  8. Opened thread to recommend Speed Racer, pleased to see it's been covered.

Do it! It's usually super cheap.

I think the Technicolor stuff looking so much better on BR than it did on DVD owes more to strides in transferring and noise reduction than it does to higher fidelity, but it looks amazing in any case. The quality gap between that early, two-sided, cardboard-and-clippy-thing GWTW DVD and its BR is especially huge.

Black Narcissus has a bonus feature on the restoration and transfer processes with before/after shots that show just what these people are up against in restoring dusty, scratched-up 60-year-old+ films. God bless them.

It does, including quaint racism. It's kind of cute, like when my nana asked if my "oriental" highschool girlfriend was going to eat the pet hamster I bought her.
