Seriously. 'Waite for god to fix it.' Was an accepted for of care for like 1800 years. At the least.

  2. It was a cartoon with talking snowmen.

And you want the parents to act like real modern people.

Yeah, Disney definitely missed the mark.
This is some top-tier shit talking right here.

No, I just got annoyed that the parents said one thing and did another. You're talking as if the people who made Frozen gave a shit about being historically accurate. You know, the movie that has talking snowmen, animals as intelligent as human beings, and people with ice powers.

Believe me, I do get what you're saying, but I'm sure it was the last thing on the filmmakers' mind.

They paid for the animation crew to fly to Norway and take in the country. They actually did try to research the period.

And it wouldn't have taken a lot of trouble to get that part right. "We need to make her feel isolated. We need to communicate to the viewer how alone she is" "how about we lock her in her room for 10 years" "can we do that?" "yeah, that was totally a thing. Didn't you read Jane Eyre?" "Ohhhhh yeaaaahhh, that was a thing. Lets do that"

    There you go.

They haven't come out and said it yet, but it is likely they got some advisers from women's studies, when the conscious effort to make movie that was more progressive for women.

There are several instances in history of women just being locked away. Back when when we had looney bins, women did not have right to attorney after marriage. The husband had completely legal control over them. It was not uncommon for men to have their wives committed for nothing just so they could marry someone else.

During the Victorian period, there were also slander laws so in favor of men that if a man accused a woman of being a whore or slutty, she could be put in the crazy house or jail. This was used to blackmail families and get rid of old wives and bring in new ones.

One phone call would have given them the precedent for that part of the story.

  9. Come to think of it, after Tangled - this is the second movie in a row that this team made that depicts a woman being locked away for years and years.

  10. Cheeks- I don't doubt any of that. But, as many people in this thread have pointed out, it was done in such a rushed manner in Frozen that it just came across as retarded. It almost literally went from "Let's help her control her powers" to TEN YEARS OF CAPTIVITY LATER. If they had delved into it a tad more it might have worked (and actually been very interesting) but as it is, it's weak, man.

I mean, on one hand they may have tried to capture the oppressive nature of the times when it comes to women, but aside from that one single element everything else was looking pretty equal and progressive in that society. Hell, that gay merchant even had a picture of his husband and kids displayed on the wall of his shop for all to see. Doesn't sound all that oppressive to me.
