Thread: What Are You Playing (Winter, 2013-2014)

  1. Yeller: What?

Joust: I've only played Origin but Oath runs on the same engine and is very similar, AFAIK. No prior experience is needed with the series, I found it legit and I've never played a Ys game before.

I THINK I AM. Which is equally weird, seeing as how Ys was the series where you bump up against things indiscriminately.

  3. Started Batman: AO the other night. Felt immediately familiar in a good way, and after a few hours it has the strongest start of the 3 games IMO (I'm not remembering exactly how Asylum started... nevermind, remembered as I typed that, still agree with statement). Everything looks real nice and feels even slightly more fluid and responsive than the others, to the point where I think I may actually get the freeflow achievement in this game. Im liking how quickly the story is moving along, and it feels like there's still a LOT of stuff to collect and side stuff to do, but I'm actually feeling compelled to do it this time (already did the Anarky mission line, taking out Enigma points as I unlock them instead of waiting until the end). I'll be interested to try the multi at some point, if anyone here has it on 360 and wants to jam then feel free to hit me up sometime. Realized that I'm pretty horrible at getting good combat scores when I could only get about 16000 points on the first challenge map. I don't want to use all my gadgets in EVERY fight, it's fun to just flip from hit to hit all over the room, but it's worth next to nothing, even with the freeflow bonus! I see this one being another that I'll finish once, maybe twice, and just get what I can get, I don't think 100% is realistic given the nature of all the cheevos vs. my desire to complete it fully.

Forgot about that Aqua game that Yoshi so generously gave me a code for (I think it was Yoshi, thanks!). It's... not terrible! It's nothing to write home about, but it's a nice little twin stick diversion for when you just want to play something for a while without thinking too much.

Popped in Fire Emblem: Awakening again, I left off on Chapter 11 after just leveling up for a while. Got 4 or 5 people leveled up with Master Seals, I like the way that works. Makes me feel bad about the characters I have sitting there at level 1 or 2 that maybe saw one fight (there are a LOT), but most battles don't let me choose more than a handful of characters and I'd rather just have my A team keep getting stronger. I had been using the Bonus Box to drop in a bunch of bonus teams before, gunna get back into the story now. Definitely one of my favorite games on 3DS.

Continuing Theatrhythm: FF, got all S ranks on Begginer and Expert in Challenge mode, started working on Ultimate Score. Unlocked 2 characters through the Chaos Shrine (23 Dark Notes in), trying to eventually unlock all of them, almost have 2 characters leveled up to 99, almost done with Series on Expert.

Still plugging away at Demon's Souls and NG+. Realized when I beat it last time I didn't actually play any of NG+, and I wasn't prepared for some of it! Went through 3-1 last night, killed everything (including Baby's Nail BP) and freed Freke, went to the boss and took out all the disciples, loaded up with Light Weapon and went in... not only did I not kill Fool's Idol in one flurry (like I PLANNED!), I got caught up in one of the signs on the floor and ate it hard. Haven't died at that boss since 2009-10, it was humbling. Got 2 more trophies for upgrading shit. Several to go, but I'm getting there.

Road Avenger. This game is NOT fucking around.

If the hardware I'm getting works out I'm going to start recording some of the old stuff I'm playing. Maybe some newer stuff, too.

Even if only Pineapple will watch and appreciate it, it'd be worth it.

Play Oath in Felghana on Hard mode and no.

  6. My friend and I spent HOURS trying to get through Road Avenger. He eventually did it, but I never could beat it.
Then we found the code that plays through the whole thing on its own, and it didn't matter anymore.

I found it pretty easy because the moves are mostly logical. It's just a matter of memorizing the speed boosts/braking spots since the icons are too similar for the speed required in the last couple of scenes.

  8. Pineapple! For Origins, it's really hard to get a decent combat score in the beginning without the shock gloves. When you get those and all the upgrades, you can turn them on in a fight sooner, they last longer and each hit adds 2 instead of one to the multiplier. The gloves knock down normal enemies in one hit so it supports easy punch n flip fighting.

Thanks! I was wondering if more stuff would become useable, I'm only a little ways into the story so far so I'm sure there's a bunch of stuff I haven't unlocked.

  10. I hopped into those first challenge rooms as I unlocked them and couldn't get close to the scores either. Wondered if I had gotten really terrible (I didn't), if they raised the bar for the medals (they did) or if I was missing something (I was).

I haven't played multi yet, lmk when you want to hunt and go seek.
