Thread: Last Gen Gems (360/PS3/Wii)

  1. That's what tags are for.

Apparently it's what mods are for too.

In terms of games people might have missed, I'd agree with all three you mentioned in your first paragraph and then add...

    • PS3 Light Gun Games - This was essentially the PS3 equivalent of the 360's shooters in terms of exclusive arcade-style.
    • The Saboteur - Without having played GTAV, I think this might be the best sandbox game of the generation.
    • Shadows of the Damned - This is lesser than the others on the list, but I still think it's worthwhile.
    • Vanquish - I see a disproportionate amount of Bayonetta love compared to this one.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some, because I went by my shelf and not my digital folder.

edit: Additional findings in my PS3's digital but retail game folder:

    • Demon's Souls - Hopefully no one missed this, but I don't have that much faith in humanity.
    • Puppeteer - I suspect most people missed this one, though it may have been on PS+. I can't remember.

I usually don't think of digital only games in this context, but Hard Corps Uprising is one that comes to mind. I'm sure there are others.

Parsing my Steam library for games of last generation would be a bitch, but Deadly Premonition is in there.

    edit2: More Steam ones:

    • Alan Wake
    • Binary Domain
    • Deadly Premonition
    • Hitman Absolution and Blood Money
    • L.A. Noire
    • Mafia II
    • Pure
    • Shatter
    • Sonic Generations
    • Spec Ops: The Line
    • Split/Second
    • Valkyria Chronicles

    I <3 lists.

  3. The Saboteur is exactly the kind of game this thread is about.
(If people actually respond and the thread has legs, I'm all for moving it into it's own thing. But I didn't want to start a thread and have it die on the vine.)
I don't know many people that played it, but I've only had one person say "it was stupid" and that was a dudebro type fella that expected a different game than what I told him it would be.
What PS3 gun games were there aside from the House of the Dead series, Time Crisis collection, and (god) The Shoot? Not that HotD and TC aren't enough to justify the insignificant cost of Move+ Camera these days. Were there other titles (PSN?) that I missed? I didn't care for the RE Chronicles series on Wii or Dead Space Extraction, so I never tried the PS3 versions.

    I didn't do this.

You covered them unfortunately. Everyone who has a PS3 should have Razing Storm and Overkill Extended Cut at a minimum.

  6. Started into Vanguish and Hitman: Absolution.

Not sure if I'll continue Hitman.

You have to play Hitman correctly for it to be fun. Basically, if you use your gun you're doing it wrong. That's not 100% true, but it's close.

  8. Glad I scrolled up or I'd have missed your edits. That's a dumb practice.
I just watched a bunch of Metal Jesus youtubes. Your lists mirror his own. Take that however you'd like to.

  9. (I agree with most of the picks, but I'd find it hard to argue that Demon's Souls, Mafia II, and L.A. Noire were "hidden gems" that didn't get a lot of exposure.)

  10. Chocobo's Dungeon for Wii is the best Torneko no Daibokenlike of the gen.
