Thread: What Are You Playing? (Spring, 2014)

  1. On 3DS I've been dabbling in some Mario Kart 7 since I got a copy for dirty cheap. Managed to unlock almost all randomly unlocked kart parts, got a three star profile rank for getting max rating on all cups and CC's, and I've got 2000/10000 online rank needed to get the golden kart body and glider needed to unlock every part in the game, it's been great fun so far!

On PC, it's been Black Ops 2 Zombies, Team Fortress 2, Fall Of Cybertron, and dabbling in a few of the Sonic games from the Sonic Hits Collection I got for a fiver from the humble store. Worth it for Sonic Generations, and Sonic All Star Racing transformed alone!

And on 360 I got Metal Gear Rising Revengeance for cheap too, so I played that through on Normal and got an A rank at the end. The final boss in that game is both one of the best, and most hilarious boss battles I've played in a long time. Totally wasn't expecting it!

  2. Hagane (SNES) - Currently on stage 5-2. Good SNES counterpart to the Revenge of Shinobi series, set in a post-apocalyptic time with a bit of Strider thrown in. There's even a Balrog-style battleship to take out. Flying somersaults make for an interesting change on the RoS double jump and are necessary to beat certain platforming traps, since Hagane can't running jump for shit compared to Joe Musashi. The kusari-gama is good for latching onto a ceiling just out of jump range. Drop kicks are a little overabusable at times since most enemies won't counter them. The big guy with a spiked ball & chain can just be bounced on until he goes down.

BTW, the prices a cart goes for are ridiculous at the moment. Hagane is a fairly decent game but I wouldn't drop $300 for it. $75-100 maybe.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

  3. Playing Catherine, Tokyo Jungle, and Supah Street Fightah Fouah (PS3).

Picked up Noby Noby Boy, which is not really that fun or weird. Just feels like they didn't finish it.

  5. Kill yourself.
    Boo, Hiss.

  6. Spam that shit somewhere else.

  7. Finally got into Mario 3D World. It's amazingly creative, and has tons of polish/attention to detail. Controlling the actual gameplay is interesting. At first I was put off by how movement was not 100% free form (if that makes sense) but after seeing the way the game was designed, I really like it, and see the point. I didn't finish 3D Land so maybe this is something I should have known already.

Also playing Stealth Inc on the Vita, and some Castle of Illusion on the PS3.

Plugged up the NES, been playing a few random things.

SMB3: I still love this game. I really hadn't played the NES version much since the release of the All Stars version way back when, but I'm starting to think there may be something to all those people who say the AS revision isn't as good.

Castlevania 2 hack: I haven't played Castlevania 2 since I was little. I beat it once, never touched it again. Well, there are lots of hacks to the game to make it more enjoyable, and apparently you can use hacks together. So I made a file that has saving instead of passwords, all the text retranslated so that it makes sense, a cinematic opening, an in game map, and a few other tweaks. This game is awesome now.

  9. I think the rounded SNES look and the microscopically looser controls wreck the All Stars games. The music is worse too.

SMB1 and Lost Levels suffer the most in All-Stars. You can't run and smack upper bricks in a smooth fashion. It makes you come to a stop each time.
