That pad is badass,I like it better than the real Neo cd pad.
I want a modded ps2, I just have slims so no hdd for me.
Ok, ugh, ok, done with my little PS2 Archiving Project. System taken apart, cleaned, broken controller ports and fuse board replaced, 250g HD installed via network adapter, and now a fancy controller to top off the damned thing. Ended up with a spare PS2 that I modded up for a friend, somehow have a small stack of network adapters to clear out now.

$40 shipped on eBay, as long as a squirrel isn't living in it I'm pretty happy.

You can still network-cable-load stuff, if you (or anybody) needs FreeMCBoot you can sent me a blank card in the mail and I'll hook that up. Get at me on PM.
USB HDs work on the slims, apparently! There IS a way to get a regular SATA HD on a slim, but it involves shenanigans.

I think I'd rather just find a phat and put an internal hdd in it.
I'm curious now, too. Can it be done without the disc drive? I have the whole set-up with the network adapter and compatible HDD, but the disc drive is shot in my fattie.
You don't need a DVD to set it up (it's all HD/memory card/USB memory stick), but if your drive connectors are fucked up somehow that might make a difference.
Non-Sony SATA HDs work (I've got a Maxtor in mine and a FFXI drive for my friend's), there's a big compatibility list you can google to check it out!
Found a couple of used games that are starting to creep up in price:
Lost Odyssey (360, missing instruction)
Dragon Quest IV (DS)
eShop card arrived today. I used it for:
Shovel Knight Wii U
NES Remix 2 Wii U
Mysterious Murasame Castle 3DS VC
Dropped my gym membership. Bought a pull up/sit up/tricep dip/push up bar thing and a wire jump rope. Good enough.
