    Cultural Variation in Game Development

I find the cultural variation of games from various countries fascinating. What games/developers have impressed you from countries other than Japan and the US? What other countries would you like to see games from?

France is always a source of weird games.

Canadian games look like American games except there are way less good ones. Not much has impressed me aside from a few games like SSX and Eternal Darkness.

Scotland kicks ass because of DMA.

Lots of neat PC games come from all over Europe like Norway's The Longest Journey, Croatia's Serious Sam and Finland's Max Payne.

Korean games seem to resemble Japanese games except they tend to lack the high quality of Japanese games.

  2. What has Germany done? New Zealand?

I believe Factor 5 was from Germany originally. They have made everything from classic Amiga games like Turrican to Gamecube games like Rogue Leader.

  4. The same guys who made Turrican made Rogue Leader? Thats cool, a friend of mine loves both of those games.

  5. There's an aussie developer making the Duke nukem GBA game if that counts for anything. And the guys who did the DC version of Le mans are australian. (good game!)

Canadian: Bioware. They did Baldur's Gate: DA for ps2 and are the pc rpg kings. They also did MDK2. Great follow up to shiny's original ..er ..master piece?

  6. Hungary was put on the map, famously and infamously, thanks to the Appaloosa.

Canada has always been a good source for PC RPG's dating back to Sir-Tech's Wizardry series. And for RTS and sports games.

Here's my favorite Australian-developed game - Beam Software's Way of the Exploding Fist 2.

  9. Croatia's CroTeam put out Serious Sam as a first effort. Pretty impressive if you ask me.
