I wonder what it's like in the alternate universe where somebody sat Smith down and made him understand he was never going to be more than a mediocre director but he could really write, and he focused solely on that and let other people handle the shooting. He'd probably have less money but be happier (i.e. no post-Z&M crash and burn into 24/7 stonerdom) and more highly thought-of.
