  1. I hear you, but a depiction is not an endorsement. Amanda Seyfried is just an accessory to drug guy, yes, but the show realizes this is shitty behavior.

    It's Twin Peaks. You're not going to find a heck of a lot of Positive Roles for any gender, yeah?

It's not just a statement on characters being positive, because obviously all the characters were flawed in the original, but there's a line between "anti-hero" and "completely useless accessory filling space." There is just no depth to anyone here, it's particularly obvious when it comes the female roles (who so far have been needlessly sexualized, incessant naggers, or just plain silent.) I think the only compassionate female characterization so far has been in the last episode with Norma, who actually showed a vague personality.

    With that said, the blankness stems to the male roles as well, though it's not as obvious as with the female cast. This article on The Verge covered a lot of my beef with it so far, including Michael Cera's "Incomprehensibly Awful" appearance. Yup, I too have seen the famous photo of Marlon Brando and have also read The Motorcycle Diaries. Clever. yup.

    I'm just not getting this. It's the worst of Lynch.

  4. I thought it was pretty funny.

    Sounds like some of the writers at Verge need to stick to movies with Hulks in them.

    A great deal of the new*Twin Peaks*doesn’t feel like it’s using modern technology; there’s no attempt to make things like The Arm look slick and digital and well-integrated with its background, or to make Cooper traveling via electrical outlet look natural.
    This is getting mad at a Dali painting because it doesn't look as real as those celebrity portraits people at mall kiosks draw.

    I don't like this article but I do take your point. I get irritated with the shallow characters, too. I am upset, for example, at Andy and Lucy's descent from lovable oafs to abject morons.

    And yeah the filming methodology is probably least on my list of grievances that I will air at Festivus. Though the green screened red room annoyed me a tad.

  7. About halfway through the most recent episode, I couldn't stop thinking "Satsuki is right about this show."

    I still like it and am dying for the next episode, but I constantly complain that television shows too willingly subordinate themselves to plot, character, relatability, and snappy pacing. Now I have a show that couldn't care less about any and it's starting to test my patience and, frankly, taste.

    There are two gruesome acts in the last week's episode. Maybe it's Puritan of me to insist scenes like these are in some way earned. These were entirely unearned and in poor taste.

    I am absolutely not going to say I told you so bc I think we're coming up on episode 8 or 9 and other people are starting to realize the show is not going anywhere.
    I believe Lynch made a valiant effort to annoy his fans and it's not working on most yet, but it will soon. I haven't seen the last few episodes and I'm really not missing it in my life, and the hype train has completely died down. So....*shrug* it was worth a try but it just didn't work for me.

  10. Why would you expect the show to go anywhere? Lynch never wanted the original to go anywhere.
