Thread: This Month's Haul - November 2014

On a happier note, I spent the morning testing old games. Some of the later nes titles are really cool looking. Other than the limited pallet, stuff like Monster in your pocket, Kirby, Metal Storm, look and play great.

Does anyone have any recommendations on other games that really pushed the nes?

Tested some gameboy games on the Super Gameboy. Game and Watch collection 3 is pretty rad. Does anyone know what they did with those pre gameboy color games to have custom colors and tv display screen frames? The classic game and watch games have frames that look like game ad watch hand helds. Ad Metabots gets the robot colors right. How would it know that metabee was yellow, pre GBC?

Also tested Mario All Stars. Holy Shit. This is kind of rad. I had no idea they remade the games with what looks like the Super Mario World assets.

  2. Castlevania III (US Version's still pretty rad), Batman Revenge of the Joker (looks better than the Genesis version, plays meh, but wow!), Recca Summer Carnival '92 (looks and plays better than TG16 shmups), Power Blade, Prince of Persia (pretty great NES port).

It belongs on the list, but that's way too broad a statement.

    This...

...does not look better than this...

...though it is closer than it has any business being, given the hardware. If we want to include Famicom releases, Crisis Force should be mentioned too.

edit: Actually, you could almost just generalize and say anything Konami did late in the life cycle is impressive.

edit2: Here is an article with more specific examples, many of which Yeller mentioned.

Gameboy game roms all have some kind of unique id in the header or something, and the Super Gameboy has custom palettes and often backgrounds programmed for most Nintendo games.

Not my genre, not my shovel. I see 'em as a way for entry level games makers to get their feet wet.

  6. Yeller is off.

Bucky O Hare and Shatterhand pop to mind as well.

  7. (I suspect I was remembering Shatterhand when I said Power Blade)

  8. I bought too many things this weekend.

I got an iPad Air 2 through a contest at work. Seeing that 16GB was the default and knowing how bad I am with file management, I paid up to the next capacity rank of 64GB. Big damn jump there. Guess Apple REALLY wants to make that 16GB model seem useless, don't they?

Then I picked up the Smart Cover for it.

After that came Smash Bros and the amiibos I picked up last night. I chose Yoshi, Link for the girlfriend, and Villager whose feet look to be stuck in some kind of silica-based snow pile. Gross.

  9. It's semen.

    That's not snow.

    *ninja'ed!*
